If Obama wants us to be oil independent in 10 years is he going to buy us all new cars?
No matter how much money we spend on new energy sources cars in this country still run on gas. With gas prices as high as they were dont you think that if people could afford hybrids they would have already bought them? So if we cant all afford to buy new cars how will we be oil independent in 10 years?

They could be converted to use natural gas. Cleaner, less expensive and we have plenty of it. The conversion would not be cheap, so that is another good question to ask.

Obama has already proposed helping the automakers retool in order produce more fuel-efficient vehicles. The government can help them produce cars that run on alternative fuels.
As consumers buy new cars they will be able to replace them with newer fuel-efficient cars. Also, conversion may be a possibility. Breaking away from oil and gasoline may not mean that we will be completely oil-independent in 10 years but we may not have to import oil, will be able to rely on our own relatively smaller oil resources and eventually will be able to replace gasoline and the gasoline infrastructure on which we currently rely.
