I am an MP, and had two females in my first unit in Iraq. Both of these females, I would gladly go into battle with. I believe that if they can hang in a combat enviornment, let them. However, I actually served with my little sister, also an MP, in Iraq and was on convoys with her, and i can see why they should not be, i did find myself to be a bit more protective of her, so i can see the argument there. As for the guy calling us pogs, whatever my friend, i have been on several missions where us lowly combat support types had to save the badass. You love us MP's, and myself and my sister both have some lovely parting gifts from the insurgents.

The Russians did in WWII
They do in Israel.
In Britain women are in the infantry but are never in the front line.
However they get combat pay because of equal pay legislation.
The front line is to be honest a very old fashioned concept.
the last real front line in Europe was in 1918
Can I point out that in the Britsh soldiers have their pay cut if they become Army Combat medical technicians.
This is because they are no longer infantry soldiers.
CMTs have won more VCs than any other soldier in the entire British Army.

No, but they can/will do convey duty or work CP and ECP to search females. Other then that they sit on FOBs doing the same thing that male POGs do.
There is a big difference between receiving some infantry type skills training and actually being an infantryman. You won't be kicking any doors.
...And recruiters don't receive a commission for getting people to enlist. It's simply how they earn there pay while assigned to that billet.

The overall answer is No, but there are always exceptions. Such as female Medics and MP's. They can be right there next with the infantry on patrol or clearing a building. There are several female Medics who have a CFMB (combat field medical badge) which can only be received when performing medical service in a combat situation. They are used to search the female Iraqi's due to their local customs. If a man who is not a women's husband even just touches her she is disgraced and can and most the time will be killed. Ive seen it.

In a traditional war, no, that is why they are not allowed in the combat mos'. However, in this current conflict there are no frontlines, so what were considered safe support kind of jobs are now seeing combat as well.
Edit: They are not infantry first as the above poster said. They are soldiers first. Support mos' "pogs" do not get any sort of real combat training. They get trained just enough to get themselves killed if they ever tried to use it.

Yes
My roomate (female) got hit with 3 IEDS total while she was in Iraq and has a purple heart.
You are not "infantry" but you can go outside the wire which is the "frontline"

Yes they can be placed right in the thick of it. I'm an MP in the army, and we do all sorts of things in Iraq. We run traffic control points, which get attacked. We do patrols both on foot and in humvees, and get attacked. And we can do convoy security, and we get attacked. There are plenty of females in our unit, and they will be expected to fight right beside us males if anything happens.
*Note to the guy who said combat support mos' just get enough training to get killed... you know when sh*t hits the fan, the MP's are the first ones on the ground to come save your skinny a**. Quit trying to act hard.

Just a bit of clarification about the role of females, in the Canadian Forces.
ALL of our military occupations, in ALL of our branches ( army navy and air force : are OPEN to women.
That means that we do have soldiers who are in the infantry, and artillery, and armoured, and combat engineers who are women. If they can pass the physical and educational entry requirements for the trades course, they can attempt to pass the course.
We have women in all our of our combat units , including submarines, and yes we do have females who are divers and explosives techs, who dismantle IEDs.
So , yes the Canadian Forces do have women in direct combat roles, as a normal assignment. We also have many gay members of the CF who serve openly, and with pride. I guess Canada has a more mature point of view on the role of women and gays in our society.

No. Do they sometimes get caught up in the heat of things and get "stuck" on the "front", yes. When that happens, they have to suck it up and follow orders just like the men. It is NOT a common occurrence.

Not in Infantry, but there are combat support jobs that are open to females.
