four TVs have failed- any ideas?

Seems as though something strange is happening.

My wife and I built a house 10 years ago. When we moved in we had a console type TV from her parents. It was older but worked fine. After a couple of years it failed and we repaired it. It worked for a while until it failed again and we replaced it. We just figured it was old-

Our new TV worked for several years until it failed. Rather than repair we replaced. We just figured TVs don't last as long as they used to.

We replaced it with a refurbished TV from a department store reseller. This TV lasted about a year or so. We figured it was a bad thing to buy a refurbished TV.

In the interim, we dug out a small Sony 13" TV and put it in the Living Room for the kids to watch before school. This TV failed after 2 mos.

These TVs have always been plugged into a surge protector at the same location. Could some sort of "dirty" power be killing the TVs in this location.

I have an LCD TV in my bedroom and a projection in the family room - these TVs are fine. The projection TV is plugged into a premium surge protector. No other equipment has failed.

Anybody with any ideas?

Update:

TV #1 was used (family) Sony

TV #2 was a brand new JVC.

TV #3 was MFR refurbished Sony

TV #4 was older (5-6 years) Sony, purchased new by us.

It could be dirty power. I would get a surge protector/line conditioner from Best Buy or Circuit City. Try Monster or Panamax.

I had a similar problem in one dwelling also. It was on old house in an older established neighborhood in Seattle. It had been split into a duplex.

I went through 3 TV's 2 at once and then a third. The neighbor had refrigerator problems, burning out compressors. Over a 7 year period.

Have you metered for inconsistent power voltage??

The neighbors appliance repair man solved ours.

We were getting lower voltage at certain times on one side of our power service, causing a "brown out" situation. Confirmed and resolved by City Light Co.

    Good Luck

If you do have irregular power, or just to give your next tv a chance to survive, you might want to check out the APC LE1200. See link.

It's both a surge protector and a line conditioner, it keeps the power constant thru brownouts and spikes. I have them on all our electronics and all are doing well.

They are a not very expensive version of line conditioning and do a very good job.

You could go as anime characters, like you said you could be the cast of pretty little liars, you could all be a different sexy superhero like wonder woman, bat women, superwoman, ect. You could also be the incredibles but there's only two girls in that. You could be the cast of a tv show u like for example; the vampire diaries, Buffy the vampire slayer, teen wolf, ect those all have girls with different hair colors. Hope I helped a bit, good luck!

For starters it seems that you've always only been buying used TVs so there's your problem right there. You don't specify for #2 but I suspect. (We "dug out"?) Seems like you just can't be a cheapskate when it comes to TVs doesn't it?!

Other than that, could be your wife is sabbotaging them, wants you to watch less sports spend more time with her.

    Or plain old poltergeist.

But seriously, I think it's just your tightwad habits that are teaching you a lesson here: spend the money now and get a good TV or spend it in 4 increments, and still the money could have been spent on a good TV that lasts but nope, got wasted on 4 TVs that didn't.

    Seems simple now, doesn't it?!

    Cheers!

i would have an electrician check your wiring. it could be that you have a power surge at that outlet and that is killing the TVs. i would do that before you spend any money on anymore TVs.
