If there was a cure for homosexuality, would you part take in it?
I asked a question awhile ago about what causes homosexuality and one of the interesting answer I got was this:
"The current evidence strongly points to in utero developmental issue due to the mothers autoimmune reaction to male only proteins used for brain development."
If that is the primary theory of the cause of homosexual development, would you part take in a prevention of such anomaly from occurring during pregnancy?
It's just a question. Don't make anything out of it. Did I have some sort of agenda behind it? No. It is purely out of curiocity.
I don't think most of your guys didn't get the question. It wasn't aimed toward gay people. It was a question toward the straight people who are planning to have a baby or had a baby.
lol, ok, it's not a disease. It's not a anomaly. You want to call both hetetrosexuality and homosexuality equally normal? Fine. If they are equaly normal, why are there a equal numbers? Also, some of you say it is a inherent trait. Fine, obesity is a genetic trait as well.
Kc, how is this question midly offensive compare to questions like, "Is Christianity a disease?"

Homosexuality is NOT a disease.
It is a CHOICE.
You may as well say, "Is there a cure for choices?"

This question isn't offensive, anyone who finds it offensive is far too oversensitive and needs to open their eyes to the actual offensive questions that are sometimes found here.
To answer the question:
Yes I would, assuming it was reliable and safe. The whole "be who you are" individuality argument doesn't really stand, because were talking early embryo stage when the brain is just beginning to develop from scratch. There is no individuality at this stage, not even sentience if it was that early. Therefore, the choice to prevent it or not would have no obligatory links to any issues other than if the parent thought it was necessary or not.
I personally would choose to prevent it. Regardless of my personal views on homosexuality, I believe it's only logical that a parent should rather their child was not gay, because assuming they want what's best for their child, they would be removing the many difficult issues a gay person would ultimately encounter - bullying, resentment, having to come out to people, the fact that most of society is geared to straight people, higher HIV risks etc - all of which, lets face it, are here to stay for a long time.
So if the child was too young (i.e. an embryo) to have a proper mind of their own, thus their individuality was not at stake, regardless of whether you approve of homosexuality or not, it would come down to this: controversial lifestyle where many more difficulties would be faced, or a lifestyle without such complications?
To use a silly analogy along the same lines: surely it's like being able to prevent your baby from being born with bright blue skin (if such a thing existed) - you'd still love them regardless, but you'd rather prevent it because you would not want them to face the complications it would cause in the wide world!

Human behavior is not determined in general and is not determined in this specific area, either.
Homosexuality is not biologically determined - at least this is not proven and is not even likely. It might have social, cultural and personal causes. I think that among its causes there might also be some genetic mistakes (or sometimes perhaps intrauterine hormonal effects) that cause somatic or psychological problems - such problems which might disturb sexual identity or make relationships with the oher sex relatively less successful. And then someone might turn to the same sex because of this.
Anyway...no social, cultural or even biological problem means that someone's moral decisions are determined. If someone has an aggressive nature that does not mean he is determined to commit violent crimes, for example. So homosexual behavior is not determined and then is not natural. It is a harmful, deviant state of mind and lifestyle and can rightly be called a kind of disease, similarly to alcoholism. And it can be cured successfully, too - see the link of my first source.

Is that the current theory? MRI scans reveal anomalies in the areas of the brain that control attraction - making it similar to the opposite sex - hence homosexuality. If that theory is true, wouldn't there be a higher concordance among siblings and especially identical twins? And that theory still doesn't explain lesbians.
Although your premise is acceptable. There is obviously a developmental anomaly, which naturally leads to a cure.
Anyways, to the question, I can't answer since I'm not gay. If you were to ask about left handedness, despite the bad analogy, I wouldn't take the cure. It would preserve a uniqueness among me.
( One of my colleagues sent me a joke site when we were discussing this issue. Apparently there is a cure www.hetracil.com )

Unfortunately, you make the same mistake that most 'self-proclaimed' straights make...that homosexuality is something that needs to be cured. Not suggesting that you have an agenda, but that you have a faulty understanding of sexual orientation, which is neither a choice or a disease.
Strange that you should accept as 'dogma' a response you received on yahoo answers!
It's just an answer! LOL

I suppose that it would be something to think about if you were going to prevent someone from facing the heartache and rejection, plus the hatred and disrespect that many homosexual people are subject to. Believe me, I have many gay friends and a relative who is a lesbian and each of them face this type of treatment on a daily basis. No one has a right to ridicule or hurt someone who has a condition that is not their fault. I love my friends and I love my cousin for who they are to me. I would never treat them the way they have been treated by some people who want them off the face of this earth; never understanding what they go through to just live their lives. It would be nice to know that no one would ever have to go through that at all. If they had choices, maybe they would choose to be like most of us but, they have learned to accept who they are and seek acceptance from those who love them despite their sexual preferences.

If there was a cure for heterosexuality, would you part take in it?
If that is the primary theory of the cause of heterosexual development, would you part take in a prevention of such anomaly from occurring during pregnancy?

The only reason gay people were for a long time very unhappy to the point of denying their own identity was because society made it impossible for them to live normal lives as themselves. If people are gay they are meant to be gay and I don't know any gay person who would rather be straight at this point.
However, I am not gay and do not mean to speak for gay people. They are as diverse as...straight people!

it's not a choice or a disease
you don't get the ways that this question is offensive
if people pander to bigots then you may as well start eradicating gingers, jews, blacks and then you can repeat the evil of the past and show you haven't learned

It's not an anomaly, its perfectly normal. There are over 1500 species in the animal kingdom that are homosexual.
