Building a stand up shower pls help!?

I have an old fiberglass shower unit that has to go,and I have a super handy family willing to help if I buy everything right,so I want to take the unit out and replace it w/big ceramic tiles and such,so what will I need?What kind of backboards,cement,etc.All the pluming parts can be reused since there hasn't been any problems besides appearance.And also do I need a pan to use as a base,how does that work?Thanks in advance for any help!

    depending on the size of your opening you can use a preformed pan and your old drain system. If not a new drain type system must be installed. Plus you ll need a rubber/vinyl membrane liner to use on the base. Extreme care must be taken to put this liner in and attach it to the drain system..The pan must be flashed up the sides at least 6 inches and formed over a curb ing that is a minimum of 3- 2x4 s layed on there side.Theres other ways but this is most common. Cement must be sloped properly to the drain. All this is a challenge for a good DIY er so think about having someone do this for you..
