HD is a screen resolution, so in order to view anything in HD on a computer monitor, you need to set your monitor resolution to 1280x720 (720p) or 1920x1080 (1080p). Most small monitors cannot exceed 1280x720 though and monitors that can exceed 1080p are incredibly expensive. You also have to take into account that many games can support HD resolutions but when it comes to games, running in HD isn't the only factor to consider. The great thing about HD is that is helps to display details that would not be legible in non HD resolutions, if the game is older and designed for sub-HD resolutions then there will be fairly little improvement. For the games that do have high detail in HD resolutions, you may need a fairly hefty graphics card.

You mean in Directx 10? Vista supports Directx 10, but XP does not. I have heard of hacks for windows XP that allows Directx 10 to work, but have never tested them personally.
