How to empty 16.4oz propane canister with degraded threading?
Hello
I just found some old 16.4 oz propane cylinders in my closet, and want to get rid of them
Unfortunately, the threading around the valve, where the tank screws on to a grill, is badly rusted, and some are a little stripped
This happened due to their age, not through usage, and some of them are 1/2 to 3/4 full; this makes it impossible for me to recycle them--I DON'T want to blow anyone up
And, I cannot vent the canisters by connecting them to my grill and burning off the remaining gas, due to the bad threads/valves.
Is their another, safe way of venting the gas from them?
Thanks

Take them to a propane supplier. They have the knowledge and experience to be able to safely deal with them under controlled conditions.
You may inadvertantly cause a leak that you can't control or if you get liquid propane on your skin you could get very painful freeze burns. Let a pro handle it...

Take them to your local fire department. They will be happy to handle your problem without having to fight a fire.

The simplest way is just to open the valve, drop a match and run!!!!
Just Kidding!
Take it back to where you got it. They can handle it.
