The US has 5% optimistically of the world oil supply and we consume over 50% of the oil produced in the world...

Ethanol, wind, solar, natural gas, nuclear, hydro, coal... alternative energy are for power generation, which the US already does in 90% of it's power plants, and we're basically non-reliant on foreign oil for these. 

Where we are reliant on foreign oil is for gasoline and diesel production to fuel our vehicles...
