help with hp laptop vista sound problem?
HP pavilion laptop (model dv9700 / dv9920US) running Vista will play sound through headset jack but not through built-in speakers when headset is unplugged. Speakers are selected as default device. Conexant audio driver has been updated from HP website. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Have you tried looking in the sound driver for any options. Also you might try closing the application using the sound and reloading?
I'm not familiar with the specific device, but I suspect it will be at the hardware level rather than a Vista problem.
By unloading the application playing sound you MAY also find that next time you load that application it refreshes the hardware. However, you may need a refresh at the IRQ level and I suspect that will need a reboot.
You might find a driver option that allows the driver to reinitialise the sound card upon application loading.

As far as I know, most laptops will play "either" speakers or headphones, but not both at the same time. IE, when you plug in the headphones, it disconnects the speakers.
