why are some christians who believe abortion is wrong voting for obama ?

i have several people at my church { i am a baptist } who say abortion is wrong saying they are voting for obama. to me that is going against your beliefs and principles ..not to mention .. morals . is anyone else seeing this at their church ? how are you coping ? i am disappointed with these people. am i wrong ? i am pro-life , and i could never vote for a president who thought abortion / partial birth abortion is ok . it makes me sad . please give me your opinions , even if you are pro-choice .. i want some insight. thank-you in advance for your answers.

Update:

i am voting for McCain , not only for the pro-life stance but also because i hate socialism . we do not need a healthcare system like some countries have. those systems .. in my opinion..suck big time !! i also believe in less welfare and less government. taxing the wealthy is not the solution , and never will be. they will take there money / assests and leave the country to keep it from being taxed ..and that is a big problem !! the wealthy leave , and we are stuck with a big bill !! i have a .. problem child.. brother in the family who chose to use drugs and become an addict { alcoholic also } . no one forced him to , he chose that way of life ! now we as taxpayers are paying his medical bills and $700.00 a month for him to sit on his butt and do nothing but draw a check !! if you believe obama is going to stop that, you are wrong. under his plans that crap and more will be financed by us the hardworking taxpayers who are not lazy !! sorry if that offends ..2 arms 2 legs.. work!!

  • The average Joe do not read or follow politics enough to know better. They are Republicans or Democrat's because their parents are or where. It's up to us to let them know that Obama, voted against every anti-abortion project presented in congress. Even the partial birth abortion. Some religions beliefs count human beings once they take their first breath of air. Therefore, they don't believe that aborting is killing a person. Even those who believe this, should be puzzled with the decision of Obama, of voting against the right of a baby that survive an abortion of merciful humane treatment.

I'm pro-life, but I'm also pro-animal's right, and when I see things like this and I do not see PITA, or any other group that hides behind common and most of the time good causes stay quiet... I start thinking about... If for PITA a dog, or a cat is more important than a new born baby? When i see the woman's group go against the only woman running, I start to think... Are they really pro-women, or just the Democrats women? If so, they should clarify their standards out in public!

You've been here for 4 years and you have 851 points. -15 points this week. Your not a fellow christian. Why lie about who you are ? And surround yourself with clues that show what you are. You've never voted ? a christian tries to be a good citizen, voting is our duty. You think the system is corrupt. Not christian again. Blah Blah Blah. You never bring up the other guy, a known christian that is a life long member in his church. A man against all the things in your little list. Why ? Then comes "like an Idol". Is that a false Idol ? Or is that like a popular idol, like Elvis ? Is your plan to make some unhappy with your pretend opinion ?

I would just like to point out to all the people talking about all the lives lost in the war in Iraq that that war was started for reasons beyond convenience. Abortion is usually about convenience. Also, our president has an obligation to protect American lives, and at last count less than 10,000 Americans have died in Iraq. If you believe as the question asker does that abortion is immoral killing, then you would believe that abortion is more wrong than the war in Iraq because there are a whole lot more abortions in the USA each year than soldiers have died in Iraq in 5 years.

that's a fair question. I can't speak for everyone but for myself I can say that I am less concerned about a presidential candidates stance on abortion because a president really has no ability to change abortion laws. Congress really has no ability to change them either. The Supreme Court has a limited ability to return the power to pass laws concerning abortion to the states but even the Supreme Court cannot pass a law concerning abortion.

A president can appoint someone to the Supreme Court if there is an opening but as we have seen, Congress can refuse them just as well. Even if they did and even if the Supreme Court took the next opportunity it found to reverse Roe v. Wade, it would only return the authority to pass laws about this to the states.

Even if Congress created a proposed amendment to the constitution to condemn abortion it would still have to pass 3/4s of the States.

You can view it as a moral indicator about a candidate but that is about all. If you elect a candidate because you want them to combat abortion then you wasted your vote. They can't. They lack the legal power to do so. Too me their stance on an issue that they cannot affect shouldn't be a reason to vote for them or not.

Like the other one said, there are other issues. Abortion is one issue, a big one. But Obama will not be able to do much about it either way, neither would McCain. I am pro-life, I just think the harm done by another 4 years of a Republican president to the economy, the environment, the numerous wars, etc. more than counteracts the abortion issue.

The Judicial system has made the decision (Roe v. Wade). I do not believe Abortion as a way to skip pregnancy, I believe if a women decided to have unsafe sex, then she should have to live with the baby.

But in cases of Rape I stand by the decision. If someone is raped and cannot have a child without dying due to a medical condition, she should have the right to dismiss the fetus in order to save her life.

Without safe legal abortion methods, some people would use unsafe methods (i.e. Coathanger, Vacuum, pill overdoses) and that can be extremely dangerous for both mother and baby.

McCain doesn't really disagree that much with Roe v. Wade either, so you being a little hypocritical by your statement.

Source(s): Neither parties are really going to change the system.

Well did they say they that they believe abortion to be so wrong that it should be illegal? That is what is at stake here, not whether it is right or wrong, but whether it makes sense to make it illegal. To me it doesn't, it would just drive abortion underground where woman would put their own lives at risk to have abortions. It would also put alot of woman in jail too. Most anti-abortionists can't even explain what sort of jail sentence a woman who has an abortion should receive. Logically it would a life sentence or even a death penalty if you really believed all human life was exactly the same.

The abortion issue is the job of the Supreme court to decide on the constitutionality of the law.

No candidate can change it, so it's not a reason to vote for or against a candidate.

I'd guess your church members are more concerned with issues the candidates CAN do something about, like the economy.
