In your own humble opinion, is it bad to let toddlers watch the same movie everyday? ?

Say it's the only tv they usually get to watch....

Update:

My son loves to watch Dumbo but it kinda bugs me that the part where the kids pick on Dumbo and his mom starts raging my son starts yelling at the tv!! Like he's trying to tell the kids to leave poor Dumbo alone!!

Well, my cousin who I help look after, my grandma puts on the same.. 2 or 3 different videos, yeah she still uses videos from the dark ages when I was little.. anyway it seems okay for her because she is learning all the nursery rhymes and songs from them - she watches playschool, the wiggles etc and she seems to live it.

I think it is having a detrimental affect on my mental health though, man am I tired of hearing " we all know frogs go la de da de da"

This is hard to answer but this is my opinion….

My son has become newly fascinated with a particular Elmo DVD that teaches about family and bath time. He wants to watch it all the time. At first, I was thinking “Gosh, this poor kid. Isn’t this boring for him?” And then I realized….it’s not boring for him. It’s all new to him. He’s interested and wants me to keep playing it because obviously he loves the music, the colors, the singing, and Elmo. And he gets SO happy when I sing and dance with him! And after the movie is over, if I was to sit down and point out Gramma/Grandpa/Daddy, certain body parts, eyes, nose, mouth, he understands. He’ll point.

So is it a bad thing? I don’t think so. If you don’t ever try to talk to your child and interact with them about what they’re watching/learning, then yes, I think it could be a bad thing. But if you interact with your child and try to “talk” about what they’ve seen and learned, I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all. My son is a sponge right now and as long as the material he’s watching is educational, I don’t think it’s a big deal.

    Just my take on things.

As long as it's not violent, or swearing all the time I see no problems with it. You know your own child and whether this would be a problem.

There is a little boy in my daughter's daycare class (2 yr olds) that has a Disney's Cars backpack, coat & hat, underwear, and goes home and watches it every night. But is VERY bright!!!

As long as you aren't using the tv as a babysitter there is nothing wrong with it. As a child mine was Rainbow Brite, my brothers were Elmo, and my daughter would have Spongebob.

Toddlers love repetition and, if the movie is appropriate, let him watch it. I have 4 kids and every one of them had a favorite movie that, after a few weeks, would drive me insane, but they loved it so I let them watch it. BTW, they were Disney movies and they learned the words to the songs and sang them throughout the day!

I don't see anything wrong with it, especially if your little one enjoys it why not?! My daughter got a wiggles DVD that she watches once a day during the morning so I can get myself ready for the day. That's pretty much all the TV she watches until 7:30pm when she gets to watch her bedtime show before book/bedtime.

    I don't think so.

Some movies have actually helped me with my daughter.

When we were potty training, we used "Potty Time with Bear." and we watched that movie over and over and over again. It was super helpful.

I don't think it hurts at all honestly. Chances are if your toddler is like most toddlers, he/she isn't sitting staring at the television anyway; they're playing with their toys while the program is playing in the background

As long as you dont mind lol (the same movie over and over can get annoying)

Nope. Kids like repeats. I put the subtitles on and they read what is being said as well as hear it too.
