Is this a good deal for wedding pictures?

The package that we were quoted is below and is being done in Southern California. Can anyone with experience give some input on the package? We've seen a portfolio, so we know we like the pictures, but is price within a average range for what's being offered?

"getting ready photo shoot (within city)

ceremony photo shoot (within city)

portrait session (any time same day)

reception photo shoot (at hotel)

one shooter/photographer

up to 5 hour coverage maximum (extra hours should be previously arranged)

DVD with high resolution images (up to 400 images)

Total US$ 950.00"

I think it's a really good deal, especially if you like their work.

The only thing I would be worried about is that 5 hours might not be enough time to get all the pictures you want. Most photographers offer a 6 or 8 hour option. Think of it this way:

    1. 1 hour for getting ready photos

    2. 1 1/2 hours for portrait session

    3. 1 hour for ceremony

    4. 1/2 hour for portrait session after the ceremony

    5. 1 hour for reception photos (for cake feeding pictures, first dance pictures, etc.)

It seems a bit rushed for me.

I am having a really simple wedding and we're getting a photographer for 6 hours. The photographer herself estimated for 3 hours for pictures before the ceremony (getting ready, group shots, bride and groom shots).

Since that is the norm for your photographer I would just ask them what their shooting schedule is usually like and if they ever seem to have a problem getting all the shots a bride and groom wants. You could also ask if you could pay an extra $150 or so for one more hour (still a great deal).

That's a very good price, especially considering that some peeople (including myself) spend thousands of photography. Besides the actual marriage, the food and drinks, it's probably the most important vendor you'll have that day. Having the DVD of images is really important as well. Otherwise you get stuck paying atronomical fees for prints.

Just be sure to check up on references for this photographer. If at least two check out, you're good to go.

Good price, but like another person said, it makes me question the quality of the photographer. I know you said you saw the photos and liked them; that's good. But...well, anyone these days can use a digital camera and say they are a wedding photographer. People on this site have posted links to online galleries for "wedding photographers" and the photos were absolutely horrendous!! But if you really like the photos, then okay, but first I'd check with a minimum of three references to see how they felt about the photos after the fact. Good luck!

I think it's a great deal! I just got a mailer for a wedding photographer who is charging $2800 for up to 8 hours and about the same number of photos in southern California as well.

Great price, but you will definitely want to arrange for more hours. Otherwise you may miss a good portion of the Reception. Plan for at least 8 hours time.

That is an excellent price! I live in Michigan and for our package we paid about $2,000. We only wanted pictures taken at the church and at the reception hall, and it was about a 7 hour time frame.

That is a really good deal, most people charge well over a grand and a co-worker paid about 3 grand for his.

You may also want to search the question for similar answers or ask in the Photography section.

That's an incredibly good deal - so good that I wonder about the quality of the photographer. Have you seen any samples of his or her work? Do they have any references? If you order printed photographs, will they be retouched (no red eye, etc)?

I'm not saying this person is an amateur or out to scam you. But when it sounds too good to be true, I would definitely check all the details first.

It's only worth it if you believe the photographer has enough experience and you enjoy their work. The price itself is pretty low for the area.

  • That's how much it costs for everything I've looked at and I live in TN! Great Deal!
