Glucophage, how long does it take to be fully effective?
I was diagnosed just last week and my numbers were coming down steadily for days and then suddenly rose about 50 points. Diet and exercise were good but had extreme stress the day before it went up so bad. Does it just take time to come down and stay down?

Glucophage/Metformin can only do so much. If you're having to take more than initially prescribed, then something is wrong with your diet and/or exercise program. The medication can only help a little. I struggled and struggled for years until I came upon a simple formula. I posted it here: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Type_II_Diabet...

Yep!! It takes time and patience and a lot of hard work to get the numbers down.
Glucophage/Metformin is a systemic drug that takes around 3 to 4 weeks to become fully effective. Dosages need to be changed periodically to get to the maximum dosage you need for good control. As in don't you have another appointment for a month after the first one where doctor told you to take the Glucophage? This is to check to see if it is effective or if you need more. Then you go another month on the additional dosage and back to the labs and the doctor again.
STRESS is one thing that will upset all applecarts! It always raises glucose levels, no matter what else happens. What you eat, do, or not do has almost no effect in the face of Stress!!
Try hard to keep the stress levels down to a mimimum.
