Why do we all have to get along?
What happened to the days when we were all different, and we enjoyed those differences?
Unless your white. I was watching the news today, there was a mugger that has been very busy um mugging, and all they would say is he was about 30 years old, 6' tall and wearing a hooded sweat shirt.
THAT DOESNT HELP, What color was he, what did he really look like, why can't we say these things any more? Even in a descriptive way, a way that could help save a life, We cant say he was a 30 year old black man with a scar on his left cheek wearing his pants half way down to his knees.
That is not a stereo type, that is some dope running around mugging old ladies.
I am not shocked to see that of the few that answered this question, some of you just didn't understand the point.
To clerify this one point, HE WAS BLACK and eventually arrested. There was no confusing him as a white guy.
further more, this question was not asked to say that all black people are guilty of something. It was to point out that every one commits crime and it would be helpful to get an accurate description on the person

I agree with you...reality is we are not all going to get along!
people just need to get this concept in life. But as far as not being able to say he is black...that is like the FIRST question a police man asks you.And there is NOTHING wrong with that. Many people are trying to make it an issue, but they need to get over it...if he is black,he is black guess it does not help with stereotyping now does it?! and who's fault is that?! not the person telling the police thats for sure!

How do you know that he's black? Generally if the perpetrator is Caucasian the news does not mention it. They may state his hair and eye color, but they will not say much else. Race is usually only mentioned if the perpetrator is a minority like Hispanic or black. In the case of your story I would assume that either the suspect in question is Caucasian or none of the witnesses can answer what race he is (it isn't so straightforward with some people, you know.)
To answer your original question, however, we must all get along (and I'm not just talking racially, I'm talking people with other people, race, sex, etc. doesn't matter) because when we don't make an effort to get along we cannot pull together and solve the bigger issues facing us.
EDIT: I apologize. You did not make that clear when you asked the question. You made it sound as if he was still at large. Anyhow, I do agree that either way they should state a person's race if possible, it can be a useful identifier. I was only stating that (where I live at least) it's more common for them to state the race if the person is a minority. That really is the way it is. People who are giving me thumbs down can disagree if they like, but they apparently have not watched my local news channels.

I agree. I saw on the news a convenience store robbery and beatings done by 2 black males. They looked kind of young in the surveillance tapes. I don't recall the news cast giving any description because the surveillance tapes had good shots of them. Apparently they were not too bright. They had their faces in front of the tape too. There are many law abiding black male citizens that would be under even more scrutiny. Innocent men have been arrested and thrown in jail. The whole thing with white people in particular saying things like, "they all look the same." That is not true at all. Those people are obviously prejudiced and not at all observant because they are disrespectful to people different from them.
Unfortunately, all of us have to live with the consequences caused by a few ignorants.
edit: It would be nice if we could all accept each other's existence and right to live. It would make life better if we could manage to grow up and just deal with it but it's not going to happen. There are many immature people walking around. There are many people with emotional difficulties. (Remember all the hype about EQ - Emotional Quotient)
We don't have to get along but we should strive to treat each other with respect and courtesy. It's not really getting along. It's tolerating each other's existence.
Getting along implies to me that we like each other. It would be nice but impossible. Study psychology and sociology for more answers.

I understand what ur saying and you can say he is black about 30 6'0 athletic build...etc....
But the thing i hate most is when there is a crime committed and they say....what did he look like? answer:black......
And what? to me it makes it seem kinda out of place for you to just say that...what else..thats a reason why cops do so much racial profiling because by saying he was black...all black men fit that description and a free to be harassed...but if you said the other description it would cut down on this harrassment and profiliing because there is a real "type" in this case
For instance the mccain supporter that made up the fake attack story...she just said that man was black because she wanted to make this a false racial issue...see what i mean?

We don't have to get along. I mean we shouldn't go out of our way not to, but we shouldn't get along with others just because some naive hippie would have it that way. More importantly, we don't have to keep coddling the liberals and infants that breed victim mentality and force the phenomenon you are referring to on others.

It's simple, we already know the guys black and they all look alike so as long as they lock up one of them it doesn't really matter which one did what cause they all guilty as sin about something something.

apperently the mugger agrees with you...muggers "generally" don't "get along" with people they are mugging...
