HONESTLY Does Obama's tax system make sense?

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

- The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

- The fifth would pay $1.

- The sixth would pay $3.

- The seventh would pay $7.

- The eighth would pay $12.

- The ninth would pay $18.

- The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. 'Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.

But what about the other six men - the paying customers?

How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33.

But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).

The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 ( 22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. 'I only got one dollar out of the $20,' declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10'

'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved one stinking dollar, too..

'It's unfair that he got ten times what I got!' 'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I only got two? The wealthy get all the breaks!' 'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half the bill!

Honestly does this make any sense at all!!

Update:

This is it how it works! No wonder so many Damn businesses are moving overseas..

Update 2:

Good thoughts Lily K and people don't you realize what the media is doing, bigger businesses are going to end up getting less of a return, which means they will have to lay-off even more people! Just because the person makes more doesn't mean he's any less hardworking than any of us! Doesn't that entitle HIM to do what he wants with HIS money. Lets say you put 100$ in get a 20$ return, and have one kid, is this any difference if you pay 10,000$ and get a 200$ return, but have 4 children, a wife with cancer, and a grandparent who needs assisted living? You think about this!, everyone is entitled to there own share!

this should answer the question does Obama know what he's doing.

    It's quite evident he does't.

If you think he's dumb about taxes wait til he starts trying to deal with the milatary and the middle east. my god he will have Israel in a mess Iran will do as they want with their nuclear weapons . with russias help. Chavez will will of course be a frequent guest to his friend Obama.

His big time crooked friends will get a free ride.

I will enjoy America as long as I can because I see a big big change coming.

I fear some rights we are enjoying now will no longer be. I alway see a lapse in the fairness in the supreme court and the newspapers getting unfair. It doesn't look good to me.

Polititians have been trying to tax the rich since the 1950's. They simply move their money into tax shelters. When revenue politicians expect doesn't come, they increase taxes elsewhere like new corporate taxes and lowering the upper limits (as Joe the Plumber pointed out).

JFK (Democrat) theorized that lowering taxes on the rich results in more revenue. Regan proved it with tax reform in the 80's with the rich paying a higher percentage of taxes.

Obama said himself that he wouldn't implement his tax plan if the economy is weak, which means it is bad for the economy by his own admission.

Do I really believe Obama won't sign something if it isn't deficit neutral? No. I think Obama will sign health care reform even if it does increase the deficit. Do I believe it's possible to reform health care without increasing the deficit? Yes. Medicare and Medicaid are incredibly inefficient. Pharmaceutical and insurance companies are spending billions on advertising alone. I believe there's a lot of room to increase the quality of care without increasing costs.

I think you confused all the democrats.

Only a moron would not realize that Obama's plan will cost all of us big time.

Prices for food, electronics, gas, clothing will go up as these companies have to raise prices to cover their increased taxes.

    Jobs will go overseas.

Overseas companies will own all of the "green jobs" because their cost for labor of making solar panels and wind generators will be so much less.

Obamanomics will bring the great depression II to you.

LOL at your 'question'! But seriously...

If you are like me, and most Americans, you want change. Obama has banked on this desire. But what kind of change do we need? It is a sad commentary when many people are so eager for change that they do not care what kind of change. They do not even ask what kind of change Obama will bring! What if that is a change to communism, socialism, terrorism, Muslim sheria law... hey, that is change isn't it! But obviously, it is not GOOD change.

I want change, but for the better! Change back to a time when society stood on a strong foundation of family values, when America was the shining light of the world and not ashamed of it, a time when we were not afraid to speak the truth for fear of being politically incorrect. McCain has more in common with Ronald Reagan than he has with Bush. I believe that McCain-Palin will be a step in the RIGHT direction of change.

(And before someone starts playing the race card, surprise, I am mixed race and I chose McCain. Am I racist since I won't vote for Obama? Or am I racist if I vote for Obama just because he is black!! Hmm, are you sexist if you don't chose Palin? This is about the facts, about core values that shape America, our daily lives, our future! Stop that ignorant inflamatory garbage!)

    Thank you. That was beautiful.

It is really painful to think, but right now our fellow americans are getting together to beat up the ninth and tenth man.

Yes, according to Teddy Roosevelt (republican) who invented "progressive taxation", and Ronald Reagan (republican) created "earned income tax credit".

No, what you wrote doesn't make sense but couldn't you summarize? Geez!

If Obama's tax plan is similar to Clinton's then, yes it will work. We had a surplus. Bush started cutting taxes but spending didn't decrease and we are fighting multiple wars, simultaneously. So, cutting taxers and no decrease in spending doesn't work either, get it?

Its easy. If you have money we take it until you have none left. Then we give you just enough that you have to keep voting for us to keep paying you.

By Obama's second year I bet the tax for will be just two lines:

    1) What is your gross (no adjustments) income?

    2) Please mail it to the nearest IRS Service Center.
