  • We are running towards what Europe is running from?

    From the source referenced below:

"How ironic is it that the U.S. is embracing socialism at the very moment Europe and many other parts of the world are running away from it?

Somebody needs to ask Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi about this.

In the past five years, 33 countries, including 20 in socialist Europe, always held up as the example for a new American economic model by Democrats, have cut their personal income taxes, according to a study by KPMG, the giant accounting firm.

In the past four years, 60 countries have cut their corporate income tax rates.

Notice you don't hear America's Democrats talking about Europe any more. They can't. Europe has abandoned the failed economics of the Democrats. In fact, many European leaders are astonished at the direction of the U.S. Its leaders are openly chastising America for its foolhardy policies of bailouts and government intervention and encouragement of debt.

  • What will be the true cost of the stimulus bill?

Because the programs in the stimulus bill don't end in a couple of years, the total cost will be much higher:

"Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) asked the Congressional Budget Office to estimate the impact of permanently extending the 20 most popular provisions of the stimulus bill. What did the CBO find? As you can see from the table below, the true 10 year cost of the stimulus bill $2.527 trillion in in spending with another $744 billion cost in debt servicing. Total bill for the Generational Theft Act: $3.27 trillion."

  • Does history repeat itself?

Obama is shaping up to have the same economic talents as Carter. Does this mean that, after four years of high unemployment, high inflation and punitive taxation we will get a Reagan in 2012?

  • So why did they pass the stimulus plan?

    From the source below:

"President Obama's economic recovery package will actually hurt the economy more in the long run than if he were to do nothing, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.

CBO, the official scorekeepers for legislation, said the House and Senate bills will help in the short term but result in so much government debt that within a few years they would crowd out private investment, actually leading to a lower Gross Domestic Product over the next 10 years than if the government had done nothing."

  • If it is an economic stimulus bill, why does it have?

Regulations that allow a new federal bureaucracy to determine what treatments you can and cannot receive.

"But the bill goes further. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective."

"Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt. "

  • Senator Kennedy fell ill at the luncheon?

In the spirit of Mary Jo Kopechne, should the Capital Police have left him at the table and called for help the next day? According to history that would be what Ted Kennedy would do.

  • So should the prosecutor in the Cheney case do jail time for misconduct?

    According to Yahoo news:

"Some attorneys argued that Banales may not have the authority to schedule an arraignment because the indictments were invalid. One lawyer said Guerra never should have been allowed to present the cases to the grand jury because at least four of the indictments deal with people who had some role in the investigation of his office last year.

"He is the witness, the victim and the prosecutor," said the attorney for Mervyn Mosbacker Jr., a former U.S. attorney who was appointed special prosecutor to investigate Guerra."

A prosecutor going after those who investigated him. Way to go!

  • Why does this myth persist?

I have read more than one question today with the statement that Clinton had budget surpluses that he passed to Bush. False. Every year Clinton was in office he spent more than the government brought in.

    Here are the numbers:

First column is the fiscal year.

Second column is the national debt (notice that it goes up every year)

Third column is the Clinton budget deficit

    FY1993 $4.411488 trillion

    FY1994 $4.692749 trillion $281.26 billion

    FY1995 $4.973982 trillion $281.23 billion

    FY1996 $5.224810 trillion $250.83 billion

    FY1997 $5.413146 trillion $188.34 billion

    FY1998 $5.526193 trillion $113.05 billion

    FY1999 $5.656270 trillion $130.08 billion

    FY2000 $5.674178 trillion $17.91 billion

    FY2001 $5.807463 trillion $133.29 billion

So why does the myth of the Clinton budget surplus exist? It simply does not - he just borrowed money from intergovernmental holdings (like social security) as an accounting trick.

  • So how much attention will be paid to this?

I can't believe there isn't more of a backlash about this story. MSNBC now admits that the story about Palin not knowing Africa was a continent was a fraud perpetrated by a filmaker.

Why is there no backlash against the media for running with "fake" news and not properly checking their sources? How much else do they report that is a fake?

  • Why would this get removed?

I had problems with asking questions yesterday. They would say they posted but wouldn't show up in the community (although they did make it to my profile).

Today the last one was deleted by Yahoo for violating community guidelines. They never gave a reason (that part of the email was blank). The appeal basically said the same thing - no reason was given.

By the way, the question started "Why do they say conservatives don't care?" and the additional detail was a website quote (properly cited).

    Anyone else having these issues?

  • Let's do an experiment?

It seems to me that people don't really understand the taxes that they pay. We automatically look for the net pay and glance over quickly the gross salary and deductions.

What would happen if, for one year, we received our gross salary and had to write out monthly checks for our taxes just like any other bill? Would this change the service we demand from government at all levels as we more acutely feel what we are paying?

  • A serious question about efficiency and effectiveness?

I spent a great deal of yesterday at the DMV and it got me thinking (what else can you do when standing in line for hours). Obviously government in some form is necessary. Obviously we are on the verge of more government in the next administration.

What does government do well? In other words, I am not asking about what do they have to do or are required to do. What does government run effectively and efficiently? What contacts do you have with government that are exceptional?

  • How does this help the poor and middle class?

Obama as quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle:

"Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers."

Watch the video before responding. I know it goes against the revisionist history version, but its a shame no politicians these days express these sentiments about America and the voters.

  • Do the early voters wish they could take it back?

Now that the Democrat definition of rich has dropped from 250k to 200k to 150k to 120k, is anyone having voter regret?

Bonus question: Now that Obama's "tax cut" ceiling is dropping faster than the stock market, anyone want to guess what the final number will be?

    3 AnswersElections1 decade ago
  • So what is the number now?

First Obama said that you were getting higher taxes if you make over 250k. Today Biden said that number is 150k. The Obama camp then corrected it and said 200k.

What is the final number for wealth redistribution?

  • Am I reading this right?

Proposition A in Missouri on changing the rules on casino gambling. I received a pro-A flyer yesterday (forgive me but I am paraphrasing this as its not in front of me).

Page 2 stated that 100% of the revenues from increased taxation on casinos would go towards education in the state.

Page 3 stated that Proposition A is supported by law enforcement bacause it provides millions of dollars to cops, firemen and public works.

Aren't these two statements contradicting each other (the only thing it deals with is casino gambling)? I emailed the organization that produced the flyer but no response yet.
