Am I reading this right?

Proposition A in Missouri on changing the rules on casino gambling. I received a pro-A flyer yesterday (forgive me but I am paraphrasing this as its not in front of me).

Page 2 stated that 100% of the revenues from increased taxation on casinos would go towards education in the state.

Page 3 stated that Proposition A is supported by law enforcement bacause it provides millions of dollars to cops, firemen and public works.

Aren't these two statements contradicting each other (the only thing it deals with is casino gambling)? I emailed the organization that produced the flyer but no response yet.

Update:

Let me clarify. We have casino gambling now. The only issue is to raise the state's "take" from 20% to 21%, with the extra 1% going to education. I still don't see where the millions of new money for public projects is coming from???

Update 2:

Guess Who - because it is on the November 4th ballot? Which is an election....

Reminds me of the movie "the producers" where they sell a 50% stake in the play to about 100 people...

Maybe they just want to appeal to the broadest base?

    Maybe they are lying?

Maybe they don't understand money or math?

    From what I am reading there is no conflict. What I am comprehending is;

    1) 100% of REVENUES FROM INCREASED TAXATION would go towards education.

    2) Casino income that is not from increased taxes will be used to pay cops, firemen, and public works.

Colorado has a similar Amendment in which they are extending hours of operation for the casino and the maximum bet to $100. Additional taxes are to be used for our community college system.

Because no one can necessarily "track down" how funds are precisely distributed, they can say anything they want in order to get your vote. One should always think twice with a proposal like that- do not believe where they "say" the funds are going to be distributed. The correct question would be- should we tax gambling in order to provide more state income to be distributed ----- who knows where and how.

Unless they are planning on educating Police and Firemen..I would say yes..that flier is slightly misleading.

My states(Massachusetts) big issues are elliminating state income tax and lowering the penalty for having marijuana to a fine.

No, One source of revenues would come from taxes, which are totally different from profit. There would still me %100 profit left which some of that could be allocated for police and public works.
