What is the correct word, disoriented or disorientated to mean confused and lost?

    It used to be orientated and disorientated. But that became too long for Americans and most people now use the shorter version – on both sides of the pond.

    Actually both verbs exist, and both are acceptable in most situations; it's more a case of personal preference.
