My computer shuts down when I get online. What's the problem?

At first I thought It was the fan and it was overheating, so I cleaned out the inside of the computer. I can turn it on and it will stay on for hours, but as soon as I get online, in about 10 minutes the computer just shuts off, as if I hit the power button. Then I can't turn it back on without physically flipping the switch in the back off then back on again. What could be causing this problem?

if everything inside is cleaned out and it just "shuts off" only when you go on-line, then that is a very bad sign of being HACKED or a VIRUS. This used to happen on my Windows 95 years ago when I know nothing is happening with the hardware, I ended up formatting the harddrive etc. etc.

Virus scans sometimes can pick these up, and other times, you just can't do much about it. You could attempt to clean it manually, but you will have to go through the system registry, look for anything odd that will trigger the virus, like "internet explorer" is most common, or look for some sort of script or .exe file being run. Also, look for any odd "programs/scripts" running when you start your computer (i.e. msconfig on windows). If you find any odd script or .exe files, try renaming it to a .txt, reset, and try going on-line. When you nailed it, DELETE it!

Some sites are just created to be evil, and doesn't have to be about cracks or drugs or porn or money, it can be on any topic/subject.
