Can someone explain guns and babies to me?

1. Do you think taking guns away from citizens will lower the gun related crimes around America?

2. Does having an abortion accomplish more than putting a child up for adoption?

Some explanation of your opinions would be great...

Update:

Carna: i'd love to see the statistic showing that adopted babies are more likely to be on welfare than, say, lazy people who smoke pot and eat potato chips on their parent's couch all day while watching old episodes of Jerry Springer...

Update 2:

Char- The fact of the matter is, accidents happen, and the father is at fault for his child's death, not the gun. Guns aren't emotionally motivated to kill, people are. It's like when people use trained animals to attack people, the dog isn't really at fault, its what they've been bred, and trained to do. Also, I'd like to see these stats you talk about in part #2. I'm not saying they should keep the child, but rather give it up for adoption and let it be the best gift in the world for someone who can't have a child of their own.

Update 3:

>>>> Thanks for all the answers so far, I enjoy seeing all the different perspectives straight from the people, not throught the media's tinted glasses.

Flatfoot is a prime example of what is wrong with the average gunowner, if she is even in fact a real gunowner

Automatics have been targeted since 1934 and were banned from import and manufacture in 1986

There is a great deal of paperwork and registration that goes into owning one of the few left in this country at the price of $10,000 plus

How much more do you want

And a real gunowner would know that a semi auto AK is not different than a semi auto hunting rifle, just a little weaker

And anyone who thinks that NO PRESIDENT IS GOING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS AWAY either hasn't been paying attention or is ignorant to how the system works or both

    CHAR

    Get your facts straight

The boy's father did not shoot him he shot himself

It was not a gun show it was a gun fair

The boy was firing a regulated, restricted, and registered full auto UZI under professional supervision

And it was in Mass the state with the strongest firearms restriction in the U.S.

    Criminal investigations are ongoing

But tragic as it is it is no different than parents that allow there too young children to operate ATVs that flip or Jet Skis that run into docks

Nobody's guns have been rounded up ?

    Ever hear of Katrina

The only reason this has not happened nationwide is due to the diligent efforts of the NRA and other groups

Obie has publicly stated that he wants to ban concealed carry permits and tax ammo at 500%

What good is that gun when you can't afford the ammo to shoot it enough to be proficient enough to depend on it without hitting bystanders

Ever wonder why gang bangers hit everyone around their targets and usually miss their target

    No practice

Abortion as birth control is one of the tragedies and embarrassments of this and every country that allows it

There are thousands of families that are wanting adopt children and the demand far exceeds the supply

Abortion is just a selfish inability to accept responsibility for one's own actions

A failing common to the liberal left

1.) no. opposite because bad folks will not fear...cause the vicitims will be helpless.

2.) Maybe. If the lady can continue in school or whatever and do something productive with her life then it might accomplish more. Anyone over age 35 having a baby is at great risk of having a special needs child.

No for those that can have the baby and offer it for adoption.. that is always the better option, when possible.

I am pro choice,..but pro adoption..as the best choice. But in so case do I stigmatize any choice. And abortion is not "birth control". It is something you do when you feel it is the wisest choice in the specific situation.

As an unwanted child, who was tortured, beaten and abused, forced to empty garbage barefoot in the snow..because I did nto deserve to put on shoes and YES the authorities and church was notified and heck no they did NOTHING...I can assure you I would not even THINK of forcing a child onto someone that did not want it.

I left home at 16 with just the clothes on my back. I had enough of the abuse...of seeing kids thrown against the wall for losing a HAIR RIBBON..OF SEEING MY LITTLE SISTER PUT HER ARMS OVER HER HEAD TO PROTECT HERESELF EVERY TIME THE MOTHER WENT BY.

I've seen married women wioth children have abortions because they could not afford another child or because the husband made them.

You do not know every situation. Usually it is the good girls that get pregnant..not the bad girls.

Some men lie and say they have had a vasectomy, too. been there seen that first hand.

    It is a cruel world.

I am Pro Republican..but I will fight for Roe Vs Wade. The government should not interfere.

Many ladies who have had an abortion do not regret it for a lifetime. I never did once. And yes I was raped and a virgin and no I do not have to "prove it". I actually went to the school counselor to see if I could graduate early, I had the procedure and the next day found out I could. I went on the graduate high school with honors, got six scholarships to college and graduated college with honors.

Because I was abused I would never have children..I think I would be abusive too. THAT is a personal decision.

On the other hand my neighbors just adopted a child. THAT IS AWESOME. Great ending for a "mistake" and what an accomplishment.

On guns -- approximately 1/4 of 1 percent of all gun deaths from 1999 to 2005 were unintentional. 2.6 deaths per 100 were accidental. That leaves over 97% do to gun violence. Banning guns may prevent a portion of those accidental deaths, but the violent deaths will not have a substantial reduction, since those are caused by criminal acts. Criminals are, by definition, people who break the law. Hence, passing a law banning guns will have little effect on people who don't obey existing laws.

On abortion -- It basically takes away any physical responsibility for the wellbeing of the child before it is born. In this amoral world we live in, that seems like the ideal solution to an unwanted pregnancy. The problem is that does not take away the psychological issues that hound the mother after such a choice is made. With adoption, there is a possibility of reconciliation with the child some day in the future, but abortion is final and you can never reconcile your choice with the child, at least not in this world.....

The GOP and the NRA has made this argument 'they're gonna' take 'yer guns' argument since the day I got my first issue of the American Rifleman....50 years ago! Since then better than half the states have passed 'right to carry' laws, the number and variety of firearms available has increased, and nobodies firearms have been 'rounded up'. The seven states without a 'right to bear arms' clause in their state constitutions have faired a bit worse on the firearms issue, but even in those states nobody has been deprived of a firearm. The stats on 'crime' have shown that private ownership of firearms isn't a cause of crime.....the most cited 'cause' of firearm misbehavior is the 'War on Drugs' and the rise of violent criminal gangs. The GOP's rant that the 'liberals' want to take your guns is no more than an appeal to a wedge issue that isn't even an issue. The democrats have dropped this issue 20 years ago, so why the continued song and dance? That wars' been won.

Abortion is here to stay. Until well after the Civil War there was no law against it in any state. Until the early 20th century the Catholic church had no objection to abortion before the 'quickening' or the 'ensoulment'. Outlawing abortion is a wedge issue tossed out by the Jesus freak foot soldiers as their payment for supporting the reactionary republican party. Abortion has no real logical reason to be opposed. Do we really want dead woman found in empty lots as was the case before Roe and Wade? I guess some people do!

As a veteran my view on guns is that they are necessary, and I must first explain that I am a Roman Catholic, a mom, and a big supporter of McCain/Palin. While I do not agree with every aspect on every issue, McCain has proven he will listen to others both in his own party and across the isle. I have watched him on C-span since the ‘90’s, and have seen him rationalize and debate even liberal protocol. His win will benefit every-one regardless of political affiliation.

I wrote this paragraph year’s ago:

Only when pro-lifers can justify their cause; when the foster care system is no longer needed because the millions of children in this system have been adopted and have a loving, safe and structured life-- when every child that is handicapped mentally or physically are adopted into a loving home-- when babies are no longer conceived by rape or born with AIDS, or any other hereditary or disabling disease -- when babies are no longer born with the painful misery of drug or alcohol withdrawal-- when pro-lifers can accomplish these few things, (just in our Nation) their cause will be justified. Then and only then can society and our Supreme Court justify their cause!

McCain and Palin is what our nation needs the most – politicians’ who are not afraid to go up against their own party to fight against this corruption at home; together they will fight for the betterment of our Country. This is the progress all of America needs now.

    1. No- every place where people have been allowed to carry concealed weapons the crime rate dropped. Despite banning 'guns' D.C. has a horrible murder rate.

    2. Aborting children helps control an unwanted population. 90% of all Planned Parenthood offices are located in low income minority neighborhoods. Children are aborted ( 95% ) based solely on the fact that they are unwanted and not from medical or rape related issues.

Abortion gives people the "choice" to either avoid the inconvenience of parental responsibility by killing their children or to allow their children to continue to live and deal with that reality as a responsible adult.

It could require history exams for all transfers of firearms, even amongst loved ones participants, and would be learn to require history exams even to mortgage a gun to a loved ones member, say whilst on a searching commute. It could additionally don't have any final result on crime, no less than in line with the US Dept. of Justice. So with that you simply must marvel why the left wishes it so dangerous. One intent would be in order that they seem like they're doing whatever approximately matters just like the college capturing in Newtown. The different intent could be to get an entire registration of all firearms which could permit confiscation at a few factor sooner or later.

    1. No. No one in either party wants to take guns away. The democratic party is against guns in the hands of violent criminals, not law abiding citizens.

    2. Depends on what you mean by 'accomplish'. If you are saying that a woman who doesn't want a child should be forced to carry that fetus to term, then I would disagree. Adoption doesn't 'accomplish' more simply for the fact that we have millions of children in this country and around the world who are never adopted, never loved, never with parents. Further, this raises the problem of the Right being against social services. If you think that every person who needs social services/welfare is 'lazy' and 'doesn't work' then you would, necessarily, need to be FOR pro-choice. Otherwise, you are denying the MILLIONS of children under the age of 5 who live in abject poverty in this country, and the millions of children who will need social services until they are 18 through the foster care/group homes. These children qualify automatically for medicaid and physical and emotional therapy. Many are born drug addicted, abused, neglected. Contrary to popular belief, FEW people want to adopt foster children. Few people want to care for our weakest members of society. AND, when in the rare event someone steps forward to care for them, they are called horiffic names and degraded--both foster parents and children--for being 'lazy' 'welfare hos' who refuse to work and 'wait around for their government check'.

<<Foster mommy to 3, that NO ONE was willing to raise, love, care for, and provide a home. There are 1,800 more in my small county alone.

No taking guns away fro law abiding citizens will not reduce crime in America. Most gun owners are very educated about firearms and safety we started gun safety with our kids as soon as possible and they where target shooting by age 4.

Abortion is being used for birth control, for someone (in most cases)who doesn't want to be bothered for nine months they got more playing to do. So in their minds yes it is more efficient.

Char no that never should have happened, the owner of that gun should be proscuted for having it loaded . It should have had a lock on it even empty!

No, taking guns away won't lower the crime rate. Just because you ban them doesn't mean that criminals can't get them. Besides if you just give extensive background checks then law-abiding citizens can still have them for self-defense.

    2) I totally agree with you on abortion. Why take away a life when someone else might actually want it.
