will the party be able to sustain it's current form, or will infighting and recriminations cause it to split into two separate parties, of the traditionals and the religious base? Where will the neo-cons fit in?

The neo cons will be destroyed after this election. Their we-want-it both-ways attitude was good for holding onto power for a couple of decades by getting votes but now it has came home to roost.
The Republicans will have to reinvent themselves into sincere people whose policies don't contradict themselves. Then after about six years they will become competitive again.

What's happening to the repubs happened to the dems after the 1972 election. The dems got it back together and won in 1976. The repubs lost because of Watergate in 1976 and in 1980 they were able to bounce back with the greatest pres of all time. So politics change very quickly. Look for a repub rebound in 2012 after a disastrous O 4 years.

The American people will quell their rage in time and start slipping back to accepting the Republican lies.
