The differences are miles apart.
Take off all the parts in toyota and sell you, everything are like four time cheaper than the mercedes. Put them together the mercedes only cost twice the price.
The ride quality is about ten times better.

Not one educated answer above.
Fact -
The Toyota's main purpose is not to be a luxurious people mover. Instead the Land Cruiser is designed like a tractor. It is intended to be driven in harsh environments for 300,000 miles with minimal servicing and still expected to be reliable. Then a refresh of the engine, usually a top end and again expect another 300,000 miles of service. Everything is overbuilt with serviceability, reliability, and longevity the main focus. They then dress it up in some very fine leathers and trim it to be luxurious to appeal to the North American markets.
The MB on the other hand, well it starts as a luxury vehicle and they try to add some utility to it to again appeal to the North American market. Nothing wrong with this, but it won't handle the harsh environments and years and years of abuse because it was never intended to.

Yes, I've noticed that too. My mother recently got rid of her Mercedes-Benz ML, and got a toyota. While we were there was a Landcruiser for $72,995.00. I found that quite odd due to the fact that it was loaded, but with no tinted windows. It was weird, but when we were recently getting our oil changed, at Mercedes, and we passed by the GL and it was the same price approximately. It is presumable since it is a Benz, but you wouldn't think a Toyota would cost that much.
Land-Cruiser: $64,100.00-$64,775.00
GL: $53,400.00-$81,300.00
Utility
There's no clear winner between the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class with respect to transporting cargo. The Toyota Land Cruiser will definitely prove more practical than the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class for those of you with frequent kid-cargo. The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class outpulls the Land Cruiser by a large margin.
Dimensions
The Toyota Land Cruiser is somewhat more ponderous than the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. The Toyota Land Cruiser's tank is about the same size as the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class's, though the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class's is somewhat more capacious. The Toyota Land Cruiser rides lower than the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, which is a good thing for its center of gravity and ease of access. The Toyota Land Cruiser and the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class compete for the same parking spaces. The Toyota's shorter wheelbase will give a nimbler feel in daily traffic. However, the GL-Class is likely to have a smoother, more stable ride.
Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. The Land Cruiser is substantially cheaper to get to the dealership than the GL-Class. The Toyota Land Cruiser isn't much costlier than the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class in terms of MSRP. The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class isn't much less expensive than the Toyota in terms of out-the-door price.
Handling
The Toyota Land Cruiser and the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class have about comparable tires.
Comfort
While the front cabin in the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class offers a bit more head room than the Toyota Land Cruiser, there frankly isn't much of a difference. The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class provides more head- and leg-room to your passengers than the Land Cruiser does.
Overview
The basic warranty that comes with the Toyota Land Cruiser isn't quite as generous as the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class's.
Hope this helps..

I don't like Toyota's as there quality has been going down hill lately and have been passed by Ford according to JP Power, but usually the winner of a race is the car with the best ratio of horsepowerr to weight .Therefore I would, unfortunately, guess the Mercedes would lose

The GL is a people mover with some off road capability.
The Land Cruiser is more of a real off road vehicle with extra seats, if only because of it's shorter wheelbase.
They are actually slightly different types of vehicle.
The G class is the real M-B off road vehicle, these were originally designed and built for the Austrian army by Steyr. They are like the real Land Rover, (not the Range Rover) they look like a box on wheels.

That is wierd. Maybe because the Mercedes is meant to be in the mid-size SUV class where it is actually expensive compared to others.
