I had 105 fever when I was 6. They put me in an ice bath to bring it down, horrible experience. But..they ended up saving my life, you have to look at it that way.

I hated the blood withdrawal also, had it done twice a week for two months. You just learn to look away and get it over with. I had so many penicillin shots (in my butt), that I had to point to areas that weren't already sore when I got them.

Now I am here writing to you to be brave, and help them any way you can.

I had fever for a few weeks straight with it going very high for a week. It started with a reaction to ear meds. The "specialist" I was seeing blew it off but the nurse practitioner freaked. She had me drink as much ice water as I could get down, prescribed meds, tests, tylenol & ibuprofen. They never figured it out but she was pretty insistent that if it goes over 101 or if a fever last more than a few days I need to go to the emergency room asap.

Apparently the fever &/or meds fried a brain chip because I used to spell very well but after that I can't spell very well. Sometimes I realize I messed up but sometimes I can't figure out the correction. I also now have pregnant pauses (little mental freezes) when I speak sometimes. These are kind of like people that had a stroke.

I don't have enough good brain cells to be burning up any more so I would pay a visit to see the doctor if a fever lingers or goes over 101.

if your fever doesn't go down you need to go to the hospital. i understand your fear of needles, but if this 104 fever is constant than there is an underlying problem that isn't going to go away with tylenol. and if you dont treat it it will only get worse.

the needles they take blood with are small and its over in a minute. it does not hurt, you will feel a prick and might be a tiny bit sore on that spot for 24 hours.

depending on what is causing the fever you may get a shot of an antibiotic like penicillin or something similar. for a fever of 104 the shot is usually given in the upper gluteus *aka your butt* and i'm not going to lie, having had this shot myself, it didn't feel too nice, but keep those muscles relaxed and it will help.

keep in mind with a fever of 104 you NEED treatment your mom is right. if your fever hits 105-106 your blood boils, literally and your brain can start becoming damaged.

Take a cold shower and then take some tylenol or ibuprofen to keep the fever down. Go to bed early too so you can get the rest you need to feel better faster. Don't cover yourself up either. Your body needs to release that body heat and covering yourself will only make the fever worse. My doctor told me that.

You can't be too sick if you are online. SERIOUSLY you can't be. If you had a bad enough fever you would not be lucid enough tobe online asking questions you would be near delirious. The fact you can be online and up and about means nothing too bad is wrong with you. Put on a t-shirt and shorts, crack a window, drink some ice water, and take a cold shower. Your temperature will drop and fast.

Alternate Tylenol with Ibuprofen... You can take them together, and it always works. Drink cold water and keep doing the cold compresses... You probably just have a bacterial infection and need antibiotics. The hospital will give you a rapid strep test, which requires NO blood work. Good luck.

I don't know how old you are, but you sound like my 10 year old. She finally HAD to have a blood test, and they put some stuff on her arm and left it for about 20 minutes and she didn't feel anything when they took her blood. Then, she actually watched it as they took the samples. She found out that it wasn't really that big of a deal. There is nothing to fear but fear itself sometimes. Listen to your Momma. She loves you.
