spiritually speaking, about fear and risk taking?

i ran into this :

Were the diver to think on the jaws of the shark, he would never lay hands on the precious pearl."

– Saadi

and was wondering how people on R&S relate to it.

it's the heart, afraid of breaking

    That never takes a chance

    It's the dream

    afraid of waking

    that never learns to dance

    It's the one,

    who won't be "taken"

    That cannot seem to give

    And the soul

    Afraid of dieing

    never learns to live

    When the night

    Has been to lonely,

and the road has been too long

And you think that love is only

for the lucky, and the strong

    Just remember

    in the winter

    Far beneath the bitter snow

    lies the seed,

    that with the sun's love

    in the spring becomes

    the rose

We have to risk the obvious dangers for the imagined rewards. There are more sharks than pearls in the sea.

It is hard to take risks especially if you know you are bound to lose a lot if the risk does not work out..

Some people see themselves as gutsy and courageous because they take risks.. They always say fortune favors the brave.. But most of these rascals take risks only because they have nothing to lose.. That is not bravery.. That is cowardice.. that is pathetic..

The real risktakers are the ones who know that they stand to lose a lot when the risk does not work out, yet they still take the risk.. These people are the ones who deserve the brave tag..

I am not one of these people.. Why? Because I chose not to be..

Well, I do a lot of scuba diving and have been around tons of sharks, yet none have ever attempted to bite me. But I appreciate the general sentiment of the quote.

Source(s): Night diving from a boat with big lights is the best - the light will attract the fishies which attracts the bigger fish which attracts the sharks.

It reminds me of a parable of Jesus the one where the master entrusted three servant to use money that the master gave them to make money.two of them doubled there money and the master said well done the other one buried his money in the ground and gave it back to the master because he was afraid of loosing it.and the master said" ye wicked and lazy servant! take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten for everyone who has will be given more and he who has not will lose even that which he had, and throw that worthless servant outside, into outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth"

that basically describes me in a nutshell.

i hate those mice of people that are always worried. my dad lives like the cold war is still raging (though it never really raged, it was all fear-guzzling)

  • Fear can be a good thing (it stops people from killing themselves), but when it becomes overly controlling it should be substituted with common sense...

hmm, I drive fast and yet have never been in all the accidents that the driver's ed instructor told me about.

my point is that not everything is black and white.
