Can John McCain really handle the presidency?
My grandfather is 72 years old. Watching John Stewarts daily show gives him heart palpitations. How will McCain's heart deal with extreme criticism and division if he does become president. Isn't that too much stress on a man of his age? Look at what it did to Cheney.

This is the first election in recent memory where I am fairly terrified. Does not appear either candidate (or their v.p candiates) can handle the office.
My attention is going to be focused on the new blood voted into both the house and senate. We need to see real change in Washington, not just in the oval office, but across the board.

John McCain's pretty healthy considering that he's in his 70s. No, I do not think that being the next president will put too much stress on him, next to what he's been through in his life. He's been a war hero, going through 5 years of torture. John McCain has been a Naval aviator, elected to congress, elected to the United States Senate, currently the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. Quite a lot. He's not done yet.
The average human can live to about 76 years, which is depending on how good your health is, and the amount of people exceeding the age of 100 has increased significantly. Who knows, maybe john McCain will be the next oldest human......... Also, it's not like being the president is a physically hard job. The job may put some mental stress on him, but he's old, yes, but of course much more experienced, so he probably could live through the mental stress. Extreme criticism and division????? Wow.... look at the president now, George Bush, he still seems to be alive, and God knows how much "criticism" he's received so far, once he's out of office, he'll probably receive much more.
John McCain, unlike Barack Obama, is more of a "peaceful" type man, if you know what i mean by that.... John McCain is more of someone who would stop and consider something before starting it. He's the type of person that would probably stop and give himself a breather before he starts jumping up and down and telling the whole country what must be done. Fine, lets consider the worst.... John McCain's president and he dies..... now what? Sarah Palin! ugh, you may say, but Sarah Palin is almost like the new Barack Obama. She's new, you probably never heard of her before, and she's not your average politician with all her little winks everywhere, is she? no, she has almost no experience, she gets confused easily, and huh, she has no idea what she's trying to say half the time. But isn't that what America wanted from Barack Obama? Maybe he's a better speaker. Fine. But Obama is just like Sarah Palin, fresh, new, ready to 'spice' up the country, and of course Change!!! So, if you ask me, if by some unlikeliness that John McCain dies if he is elected president, then you'll all be stuck with someone like Obama. In the United States, the president doesn't get much power with the whole government like it is. So, Sarah Palin probably wont be able to ruin the whole country by herself. ;)
and of course John McCain;s ready to handle the presidency, it's not like anyone is ready., as much as he is >=(

I believe that Cheney had pre-existing heart conditions prior to his vice presidency that McCain does not have. Yes, he is older, but keep in mind, he has been doing this type of work for so many years, I believe he is up for it. He will have the best medical advisors in the world at his disposal. I wouldn't let his age be the reason you wouldn't vote for him.

If McCain wins the presidency, he is going to be stuck with a Congress that hates him and a populace that hates him. He will not be able to get anything.
And that goes double for Palin if McCain dies, which in all probability he will.

The stress of the office of the Presidency, while daunting to most, is a walk in the park to someone who spent seven years being tortured in a POW camp.
