Military rank of O-1E?

They are the same grade, and while the time in service equation (who's been in the longest) can determine who's senior, there's an old traditiona with Lt's that they all are equals. The E thing only comes into play for pay.

An O-1E makes more than a regular O-1 because he is being paid more for his time in service on the enlisted side.

Assuming they both have at or more than 6 years in, the O-1 would make $3,215.10 a month while the O-1E would make $3,433.80 a month.

All in all there is not a lot of monetary benefit until you start getting up around 10 or 12 years of prior service or more. The main benefit of O-1E is that as a 2LT, your pay increases do not stop after 4 years of service whereas with an O-1, they stop after 4 years until you get promoted to O-2.

EDIT: No need to be rude. A simple edit and statement would have sufficed. At any rate, no, an O-1E is not necessarily senior to an O-1. Seniority goes first by rank, and if two people hold the same rank, it goes by Time In Grade, meaning who has been a 2LT longer. It doesn't matter if that O-1E has 20 years in, but only 1 as a 2LT. If that O-1 has 2 years in as a 2LT then he is senior. So overall, no, just being an O-1E does not make a person senior.

O-1 and O-1E are different pay grades but the same rank 2LT, the only difference between the two would be time in grade and time in service.

So most of the time even though with Officers its usually about year group, which most 2LT's would be in the same year group therefore all looked at as equals. The person with the most time in the grade would be the highest ranking commissioned in March out ranks April, if they were both promoted on the same day the one with the most time in service would be the highest ranking. So that would be the O-1E because of his prior enlisted time.

The fact that everyone is pointing at money is because the biggest difference between and O1, O2 and O3 and an O1E, O2E and a O3E is the amount of money they make when it comes to being a junior ranking officer. (The E will drop from their Pay Grade once they are promoted to O4). The second biggest difference between the two ranks O1 and O1E is that an O1E must have served at least four years on the enlisted side.

As others have pointed out: For someone to determine who the Sr. Officer is they would first look at pay-grade (What their rank is, so O-1, O2, O-3 and so on up to O-10) and the date that they were commissioned, (When they joined the military as an officer)

If two officers have the same Pay Grade and entered the military on the same day, they would then look at the amount of time on active service the two military members have. At that time the O1E would out-rank the O1.

So on a whole, most of the people who have responded to your question were not giving you "crap" they were giving you the information you were looking for.

Seniority is determined by rank first of all. O-1 and O-1E are the same paygrade. Thus no seniority

All the E stands for, is that 2nd Lt. was prior enlisted and recieves a higher base pay.

OE1 means Officer prior Enlisted, so they are the same rank as an O1. The seniority will depend on the number of years as an Officer. The pay will be higher for the OE1 because they will count the number of years the person was Enlisted as well as the number of years as an Officer. So an OE-1 with 8 years gets more than an O1 with 1 year.

More important than the extra pay is the fact that the time in service curve flattens out much later for O1E, O2E and O3E plateaus much later than the O1,O2,O3 paygrades. Which the prior enlisted are likely to achieve.
