Do you think anyone who "can't afford health care" has a cell phone, cable TV and a nice car?

Of coarse they do - just like most of the people on welfare.

We have the richest poor people in the world, and they always are looking for another handout!

I do feel that this is the alot of the time. Maybe not all three, but a couple of them for sure.

There are people that think cable is more important than Health care. as long as they can prove they are poor, they get health care. The welfare offices don't look at what the family has. I have seen people on welfare that have a PS3, or XBOX360 or both. There children are wearing $150 tennis shoes. They have a big screen tv and Sat service, but these people are poor.

Now I am not saying all or most are this way, but there are enough of them to question the system.

edit: to the people that feel they need a cell phone, get a grip. When I was laid off, the first thing to go was the cell phone, The second thing to go was cable. A land phone by comparison is much cheaper (and you don't need all those extra features).

People need to decide what their priorities are, and apparently there are a lot of people that are confused by need and want.

17 million out of the 37 million U.S. citizens without health insurance are in families that make $50,000 or more. Can't afford is hardly the word for this.

This kind of makes things interesting on the universal health care idea. The number quoted by McCain, Clinton and Obama is 47 million living in the U.S. 10 million are listed as illegal aliens and I already mentioned 17 million of them. As for 10 million making under $50,000 a year, they traditionally get insurance after 4 months. So really the Democrats are fighting for Universal Health care based on 10 million Americans or the largest number being 20 million.

Well, my friend was married and had three kids. Divorced him for cheating on her, bought him out of the party store they owned, has a cell phone because she works 60 miles away from her house and the kids schools, has a decent car because she needs good reliable transportation and no she cannot afford health care because her ex disappeared and has not been around for 5 years and has never paid a dime on child support. He also left her with mounds of unpaid bills from the store. Does all that make her a bad person? Are you going to tell me she shouldn't have had her kids? Can you see what's going to happen in 7-8 years with your spouse?

i bought my "nice car" with money from when i was hit by a car (i was 9 at the time and the settlement said i get such and such money when i turned 18) and the cell phone i need so i know when i work. need the job so i can pay for rent, food, gas, bills, i'm in debt, etc. things that can't be ignored. when i pay everything that i absolutely need i only have about 30 dollars left over.

do you think this is enough for health care?

i have priorities, i just don't have enough money for those things that are now a luxury. i can't even buy new work pants, i had to buy the one pair i have from goodwill and that was me splurging.

You assume everyone has a nice car. I have health insurance, but now I can't afford the fuel pump and gas lines for my broken down car.

Everyone does have a cell phone and cable though.

I don't know what the percentage would be - but I'd be willing to guess that it would be high.

Perhaps even a HD widescreen and a few other "necessities" instead of decent health insurance.

And you can bet the farm that they are voting for Obama.......

yes because

1) you need a dependable car to get to work + car insurance

2) you need a cell phone for emergencies if your car breaks down

3) you need to pay rent and utilities

4) you need to feed yourself

what's left, only enough for cable tv

try paying $500 a month for family health insurance, plus dealing with copays, deductibles and 20% coinsurance on top of all.that!!
