How will the opinion on global warming change in the U.S. with a new President?

With a different view in the White House on the existence of AGW, how do you think that will affect the American opinion and here on Yahoo Answers?

Do you think the opinion of the American people will come closer the opinion of the rest of the world?

Nothing will change on Yahoo Answers, because this is a gathering area for hardcore deniers who will never be convinced that AGW is correct.

I think that general opinion will definitely change within the US over the next 4 years. The past 8 years, we had a government leadership which denied AGW for a while, then utterly failed to take any action to address the problem. Obama is poised to win the election, and has pledged to make energy (in particular, renewable energy) his top priority. He understands the importance of addressing global warming, and I have no doubt he'll take serious action on both a national and international level.

When Americans see our leadership finally taking the issue seriously, I think AGW will gain wider acceptance, and we'll start to catch up with world public opinion.

As a side note, if McCain somehow miraculously wins, I think we'll make much less progress in both American public opinion and addressing the issue. Fortunately, Obama's going to kick his butt!

Bob, Bob decelerate. all your checklist contains is the uninformed opinion of a bunch of politicians and CEOs who've placed their companies to apply guy-brought about worldwide warming FEARS. As a skeptic i will stipulate that the Earth has warmed a pair of ranges interior the previous a hundred and fifty years. So what? It nonetheless isn't as heat because it became into in basic terms approximately a million,000 years in the past interior the Medieval heat era. Temperatures cycle. Get used to it. Twenty 5 years in the past the phobia became into worldwide cooling and the imminent ice age. This observed approximately 35 years of cooling beginning after the warmth era interior the mid-Nineteen Thirties (warmer than now, via the way). by the type, different the present warming with the aid of fact the 1850's got here about before 1940. you may no longer correlate CO2 emissions with temperature differences and that's a easy certainty. Oh! Your question: A well-known line in all of the President's men attributed to Deep Throat became into "stick to the money". Your answer lies therein.

As others have noted, either candidate is an intelligent man who listens to knowledgeable people. But Palin represents Creationists and anti-scientists who are causing the dumbing-down of America and weakening our ability to compete in the world economy. A Democratic win will better promote good science education throughout America. If there was a party that McCain actually belonged in, such as the party of Reagan, it would not be so clear cut that the Democrats were smarter. But as long as the GOP is run by Creationists, their agenda will be do stop Americans from learning science.

Both presidential candidates have endorsed strong action on global warming.

I think that sooner or later, the American public will come on board. It's like the flat earth society... you can only be in denial for so long.

the global warming sub category in yahoo answers will no doubt be eliminated as superfluous if the leftists win.

the whole agw thing has always just been a convenient way to disseminate leftist political propaganda & give the mindless sheep a flag to rally behind.

the world will continue to warm at the 1to 2 degree per century rate it always has(hopefully) but suddenly it will no longer be seen as a problem & the agw issue will gradually fade away.

There should be less anti-intellectualism in the White House, unless McCain is elected, in which case Sarah Palin could play a role and drag the conversation down to her level.

Here's an article detailing how Sarah handles logical or technical information (among other things):

    Barracuda

Apparently she prefers to "shoot the messenger" when she encounters someone who seems intellignet, even if they're simply trying to help her understand a topic so she might form educated opinions.

This year I am deeply embarrassed to be registered Republican.

The new president *might* have some shred of hope that the U.S. can survive economically even with some regulation of greenhouse gases

No, think about our history. Hasn't changed so far, what makes you think that this one be any different. You can't put it on just one person and believe that everything will magically change. It is everyones responsibility.

Big Al Gore is the Jesse Jackson of environmentalists.

I hope the US maintains some degree of common sense.

    No.

The people who actually think things through and are skeptical will remain skeptical. The people who are sheep and believe this nonsense will be suckered in no matter what.

The change of the president doesn't change the opinion, it just changes who presses the buttons.

And just because the "rest of the world" is wrong, does that mean we should become wrong to get along?
