Republicans, who do you blame for the loss?

I don't ask this to rub salt in your wounds. This was the first time in 5 attempts that I have voted for the winning presidential candidate. I know the bile in the back of your mouth feeling.

In 2004, I blamed Kerry for arrogantly thinking he could win Florida after the 2000 election fixing there. If he had only spent that time in Ohio instead.... (Later I found out Kerry had 14M unspent after the campaign. Knucklehead!)

In 2000, I had blamed Gore for not allowing Clinton to campaign for him here and there. I felt he cut off his nose to spite his face. (After watching "Recount", I blame Lieberman far more.)

Who do you blame? McCain? His handlers? Palin? Her handlers? Bush? Voters in a region?

Ourselves, mostly. I mean, that's what it comes down to. You could look back at this and analyze and point fingers at where the fault lies all day long, but it's far better for Republicans to learn from this by looking in the mirror instead -- and not making the same cumulative mistakes again. (And by cumulative I mean going back to at least 2003, and possibly earlier).

Regardless of how anyone feels about her personally, I'll tell you one thing that Palin's spot on the ticket did for the party -- it finally legitimized a large part of its constituency, conservative women, that has been overwhelmingly under-represented in the higher echelons of the party until now. (You think it's hard for liberal women to get within shooting distance of the top spots? Try dealing with all of these ol' conservative boys!) On a much smaller scale than Obama but no less significant to those it affects, she's opened doors for us. I expect to see the face of the Republican party become much more diverse, and younger, in the years to come. So that's the positive I'm taking away for us.

I wish Mr. Obama well. As he stated last night, he's my President too.

Honestly, I blame the republican party as a whole for nominating such a weak candidate. McCain's a great senator, but he just doesn't have what it takes to win a presidential campaign. That's why Bush kicked his butt in the primaries in 2000. Nominating Palin was a stunt that backfired and I think McCain would have had a lot better shot if he picked someone like Huckabee or Ron Paul. But the bottom line is that I think McCain never should have been the nominee in the first place.

The media takes first place. I believe in a free press, but they wield too much influence. They purposely promoted one over the other instead of doing their duty - to give facts and set their personal preferences aside. On top of that, they gave almost no coverage to those from smaller, lesser known parties.

They're not the only ones to blame, but they are a good majority of the problem.

Personally, I think Americans want easy answers. I think someone who can speak well and is easy to relate to will be very popular. To me, Obama says the right thing at the right time and people are buying into his message. He is relatively new and doesn't fit the typical Washington mold. Many people see him as someone who truly cares for their needs. I also don't think McCain's age helped him. He isn't "cool" like Obama.

People are looking, searching for a figure to come along and save them from their sad lives.

The 20 million conservatives that voted for the most liberal, left wing candidate in the history of the country as a result of our "national guilt".

Bush is the sole reason. Everything else was collateral damage. I really don't think a Republican was going to win this year regardless, but McCain gave it a good run.

    I blame:

Bush because his messed up policies haunted McCain.

McCain for choosing Palin as a running mate. She is hot but not a VP

Voters who voted based on color.
