Can anyone tell me if Euonymous Alatus (Burning Bush) is hardy in Louisiana?

I have a customer that wants to give one to a friend that lives in Louisiana. I am in Ohio, which is zone 5. Most of what I've read about them say they are hardy to zone 8. I believe Louisiana is zone 9 tho. She lives close to New Orleans..anyone have personal experience with

this shrub in these zones? I'm not 100% what zone New Orleans is in. I'm thinking it may not get cold enough during the winter months?

Update:

I work at a nursery....in zone 5. All the info I have read about it says it's hardy zone 4-8 (and to zone 9 on the west coast)....I just am wondering if anyone has had experience with one of these shrubs in zone 8 or 9. Sometimes the books say things are only hardy to certain zones but in reality they may be hardy in northern parts of those zones ..southern parts etc.

Update 2:

*** I wasn't aware of their potential dangerous habit...I will have to do more research on them. Proven Winner sells a beautiful variety called FireBall. I've never heard of it being a problem for my area in Ohio,....but I appreciate the tip....I will look into that. Honeysuckle is invasive here and it's horrible...I too discourage planting invasive species.

It sure is. New Orleans is 8a and some places 9b. They will grow....and grow....and grow. It does freeze a few times each winter.

I have a problem with burning bush. It is an invasive species that will seed itself in nature. I am a landscape designer and would NEVER put this in one of my designs. I am sure it is hardy down there. I too am zone 5 here in New York and whenever I go out on hikes in the woods there is burning bush everywhere! I hate the plant. Please, convince this customer that this plant is not right at all.

Euonymous Alatus is quite hardy (to zone 4) although some localities advise not to plant it--see weed alert at--http://www.druidry.org/obod/trees/spindle.html#car...

    I hope it helps.

Phone your local nursery, they will have that information.
