How do white americans feel about Obama being President-Elect?

Yes, I am a 31 year old black male that voted for Obama. This is what I want to know. I'm asking this question to White/Caucasian Americans. This isn't a racist question by any means. I just want to know how do white americans feel. Be honest, your thoughts and opinions want offend me because I'm a black man. Do you honestly dislike Obama because he is multiracial? I'm sure some people not all white people, but some white people choose not to vote for him just because he has color to his skin. I know some black people that are having problems with their white co. workers now that Obama is President-Elect. I have a friend that told me that some of the white females in her department has talked with her since Obama won the election. That is so sad to me because I am a black man and we are living in the year 2008 and racism still exist. Why ya'll? Why act like that? Why can't we learn to love and like one another in spite of our skin color? Why can't all Americans be happy to have our first multiracial President that is half White and Black in office. Yes he is black on the outside but he is half white as well. Dislike him because he isn't the President you wanted, but don't dislike him because he is a man of color.

Update:

I'm reading some of you guys answers to my question. Some are misunderstanding my question or either think I'm pulling the race card. What made me pull up this question is because one of my friends told me that since Obama has won the election, there are some white females that haven't talked with her since he won. All I'm asking is, is there some white americans out there that truly dislike him because of his color. I am aware that it took white, black and other race of people to elect him, but I also know that there are some white people that just didn't like him because he is a man of color. Understand the question you guys before you answer. If you can't answer the question that being asked. Just don't answer it LOL.

    1st of all...I voted for McCain...LOL

FYI Obama won b/c majority of white people voted for him

if you didn't know...most of the voters are still white and this country is still mostly white LOL...Obama didn't win just b/c black people voted for him...I know my black friends didn't vote for him

I assume you're thinking too much about racial issue no one even bringing that up...most people didn't like and didn't vote for Obama b/c his politics and track record...and his platforms.

racism exist only if you dig it n' make it an issue...

for example when black people call white people honkey or asian people chinks...99% don't get offended b/c we don't really care

but when someone calls a black person the N word or even say that black guy....they get offended and makes it an huge issue...

anyways...all I'm saying is the educated people didn't vote for him b/c of his ways of politics and platform not b/c the color of his skin

the truth is he's a good guy, he won, we'll all just have to accept the fact and stand behind him and hope he'll do some good

Well first of all, Obama won because White people voted, if white people didn't vote then nobody would win.........because black people, asian and hispanic are minorities they do not make up most of America. So, to answer your question, I think White people are fine with Obama being president, of course there will be a few that are not, not everyone is open minded still in this day and age.....you know? However, I want to point out that black people only voted for Obama because he was black. That is not a reason why you should vote for someone. You should vote because that person's proposal is going to help you in life and help the country for the better.

Thank goodness in this case Obama is an intelligent man that wants to better the USA. Notice that I said Man not black man. He doesn't want to be labeled as That black man, he is Man. I think black people in general have race issues with themselves because the majority think that white people hate them all the time. It's time to get over your self and make a white friend. You will see that we all sleep, eat, drink, love, pray the same....like humans do. So, yes there will be some white people who don't like Obama just because......but hey you can't tell me that theres Black people out there that all like white people. Racisim works Both ways. I can raise the race card up too, but when its needed not because I didn't get something my way at work, or at an organization and so forth and say hey you said this and that just because I'm black. Thats wrong to do and it gets abused and so that is another reason white people may dislike black people. But there are so many good black people and white that the bad seeds (bad whites and blacks) shouldn't spoil it for everyone else. I voted for Obama because he deserved it no other reason.

Decades ago,. when JFK ran, there was much to-do about he being a Catholic. The Vatican would run the country, etc etc. That just turned out to be so much BS.

I almost expected to see, oh,. Americans will never elect a black man, and every time I heard this, I just thought of JFK.American would never elect a Catholic.

As far as I am concerned, Barack is an American..Period! .Once JFK a Cathoilic, was elected, my thoughts were, one day we're going to have a black president. Well, he's here! Maybe the next president will be Jewish?

Barack Obama not the candidate of my choice, but now that he's my president, I wish him every opportunity to be a pleasant surprise..

When he won, he crossed the line between being a politician and being a leader. I wish him well.

We are not all racists!!!!! Has it ever occurred to you that maybe, just because we are white it doesn't mean that we must be mad about this! I am tired of people thinking whites hate blacks...ect. When I see people, I dont notice color as anything different then what shoes you are wearing....this is stupid, sure there are a few dumbo's who think one race is better than the other, but there are also blacks who absolutely hate whites...its not just white people. 1 person does not represent a whole race. I know this and i am 15, you should know this by now too. I am not racist and you should not assume every one is out to get African Americans.

I am sure Obama will be a good president and do his best to straighten it out. I say this even though I would have voted for Mccain. They both intended to do their best.

Your question is interesting. You say that it is not racist but deep down it is. I'm sure that, when Obama was elected, there were black people that thought " now we have a President that will help us". The fact that you asked this question is what is wrong with America. I am a white man ( over 60) that voted for Obama. I voted for him simply because I thought that he was the best person for the job and I agree with most of his positions. When a question like this will not be asked, when blacks stop resenting whites, when whites start respecting blacks, that is when we, as Americans, will truly have make great strides towards the country we can (and should) be.

I'm a white woman, and I voted for Obama. I think he's intelligent and eloquent, and I voted for him with no reservations whatsoever. The fact that he's multiracial was not a consideration for me.

One point you may find interesting is that while I appreciate the historical significance of electing the first African-American president, I wasn't that surprised by it. I'm 45 and my first awareness of the world was post civil rights. Also, I grew up in Los Angeles, which wasn't plagued by the level of racism seen in the South. My husband is older than I am, and he grew up before the civil rights movement. He supported Obama wholeheartedly too, but he was more surprised than I was that this country would elect a black man.

If I'm any indication, I think it's wonderful that many people born during or after the 1960s see race as less of an issue than older people might.

It's not the color of a person's skin.Think about how ridiculous that is. Why not the shape of his tongue or the number of hairs in his eyebrows or some other ignorant measure. The measure of a person is character and nothing else, nothing. Any person can be a racist and many are that sincerely believe they are not. This distinction applies to both black and white and everything in between. It's human nature, possibly with a genetic basis, and grounded and reinforced by the fear of the unknown. More importantly though, its 95% learned and passed from generation to generation. Like all ignorance, only education and self awareness can cure it. We're are learning, albeit slowly. Barrack Obama is a gift to this country, bringing the best of both races to the forefront. It a way hes an end to a long struggle, but in another way a beginning. More than any other time in the history of this Republic, and the history of the world for that matter, we need him. Black, white or indifferent, we all need him. These problems that face the nation and the world now are far, far, greater than the public at large realize. This man named Barrack Obama just might be the only man on earth capable of doing what is needed to save this country as we know it. In their hearts, I believe that even the worst of the racists and right wing lunatics know this.

I am a 32 yr old white woman and I love Obama. He represents America. He is diverse in race, education, upbringing, culture and class. He can blend well with the inner city and the suburbs as well as the elite and wealthy. He can talk to the underserved and uneducated and can debate with the extremely intelligent. He loves his family, he is mellow and calm and his perseverance, strength and tenacity is nothing short of amazing. He is going to be a model of what all children can look up to especially among black children to say YES WE CAN. He came from a single mother that was rising bi-racial children in a time where is was unacceptable. He is proof that no matter where you come from or what has happened in your life, you can become anything. He is going to bring alot of things to our country. Although racism still exists, the election polls show that the majority saw past his race and believed in what he can and will achieve. He did win by a few points, he won by wide margins. Just over 40 years ago, this moment was unfathomable. Just think what progress will be made in another 40 years. YES WE CAN!!

I am a white woman who hopes that Obama can make things better. What I would really like to know is why is OK for black people to still be racists against white people...like you said this is 2008. If you are going to live in the past and not let go of what happened, many many years ago then we will never get along.

I work with black women who talk crap about the white man all day. It goes both ways and hopefully one day we will all get along.

Does anyone out there agree with me?

I do not care what color he is. I would just like to see him produce his actual birth certificate to prove he is eligible to BE the President of the United States; only an uncertified copy. He has little experience to run this country. But my main problem with him is that he is an abortionist.

Obama's record on abortion is extreme. He opposed the ban on partial-birth abortion -- a practice a fellow Democrat, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, once called "too close to infanticide." Obama strongly criticized the Supreme Court decision upholding the partial-birth ban. In the Illinois state Senate, he opposed a bill similar to the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which prevents the killing of infants mistakenly left alive by abortion. And now Obama has oddly claimed he would not want his daughters to be "punished with a baby" because of a crisis pregnancy -- hardly a welcoming attitude toward new life.

I only dislike some of his policies. His skin color...being 1/2 black has nothing to do with how well he can/can't lead our country. I think that racism still exists because people like you won't let it die by bringing it up. Also, unfortunately, certain races still live up to their stereotypes, and thus others will still be racist towards them. Despite the small pockets in the US where racism does exists, the majority of the country has obviously gotten over racism...Obama is proof of that. Or, it could be reverse-racism...where black people voted for him only because of his skin color. But millions of white people voted for him as well. I think they at least proved that color doesn't matter for them.
