Why is Congress not Bailing out GM, Ford, Chrysler?

Car companies are about to die and along with a double digit of unemployment if this happens. Right now Congress is sitting around not looking to fix the problem, and letting the car industry die, why? What are you Dem's doing there?

Taking vacation?

Bush call for them to help but congress just says NO!

We have 700 billion right now, would you give some of that money to these Companies?

Georgia, GM and Chrysler are most likely going to merger. The government supports and is pushing for this. If they don't the government would be looking at bailing them or by giving them a loan just like they did Chrysler back in the 70s I believe it was. Chrysler did end up paying the government back by the way. Ford should be ok, for awhile anyways as they are not doing as poorly as GM and Chrysler. Something else I want to add. I hate to say it but some of these American companies are getting just what they deserve as most of them are more worried about profit and production and giving dividend increases to their stock holders rather then producing a quality product and taking care of their workers. And it's for these reasons that the Asian auto makers are eating the lunch of the American companies and they darn well know it. Greed and arrogance and to much power is a huge huge problem in corporate America.

If they took the money and helped every single small business owner it would be more helpful. All told small business is what runs this country. It just simpler to give it all to one place.

The big three have always been helped in the past, Maybe it is the time to let market conditions determine who survives. It is not like in the past where the big three were owned 100% by Americans. Bailing them out would really be helping a load of foreign investors.

Of course a lot of workers would lose their job initially, but are these jobs that have needed government intervention time after time really the jobs we need to secure this countries future. Its like working for the government they have been bailed out so much.

I think the government is just tired of paying for these companies bad decisions.

American car companies are seen as evil b/c they made all those gas-guzzling trucks & SUVs for years. Never mind that that's what the consumer wanted until gas went to $4.00 a gal. Eventually though, Motown will be bailed out as well.

My Q is, after Wall Street, the banks and insurance co.s & auto co.s, where do the bailouts end? Every industry is crucial to someone.

President bush has in basic terms thrown them a rope with billions of dollars in the event that they're going to re-invent themselves interior the subsequent 3 months. If not, then he's soliciting for the money returned and that i doubt if congress will then be interested in giving any extra funds. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that we ought to constantly 'bail' them out via fact we are the quite a few the reason they're interior the mess they're in. individuals needed huge SUVs and monster 4 door vans to gadget their egos around in and the vehicle maker ought to construct those huge gas guzzler or lose sales to a pair competitor who will. the vehicle corporation's unions are hurting any bargains the government will make with them now. The assembly lines are making the straight forward workers into millionaires with seventy 5 to 80 funds an hour in wages and advantages. That equals a million million funds in wages and advantages each and every 7 years in step with worker! that's what's fairly hurting the companies.

How about reducing the executive perks, and excess pay? Will congress now needs to run all business?

Because that means their unions survive.

Can't have that when a CHinese company can buy their assets and pay their laborers $8 an hour.

  • 1 decade ago

Well because they are loosing so much money they can't stuff the pockets of politicians like banks can.

  • 1 decade ago

Hell, no. If they go out of business, then some other company will buy those assets and use them more efficiently.

Because there isn't enough money in it for them (congress) yet.
