Millionares only... How did you find a mentor before you became rich ?

All of the successful self made people I know are independent thinkers. Some have had mentors, most have not. When choosing a field be sure the top people make a lot of money. I have seen convenience store managers that were smarter and harder working than the average stock broker but earned only 25% as much money. After you select your field, work harder and longer and smarter than your cohorts and watch for opportunities. Always be business like and avoid any open conflicts with co-workers. Ask for promotions and if you have earned them and not received them, change companies.

Having too close a relationship with a "mentor" can be a problem. Success has to be doing something that works with your personality.

That doesn't mean you can't learn from others, so watch how successful people operate, but keep some distance. Try reading Market Wizards" and "New Market Wizards".
