Am I wrong in this belief?

Religion is a belief....I believe in God, but I do not practice religion....there are so many religions that are out there praying and saying that they are right...they are saying that it is "their God"....many wars are have some sort of religion differences in them. I feel that everyone who is praying, no matter where they pray and how they pray, are praying to the same God with the only differences being the tradition of each religion.

If people can see this and accept it this way, then this world will be a better place to live in.

Agree or disagree? Please explain without insults.....

Thank you.

Update:

Rene O,

Let me rephrase that....let's call him/her "the Creator".

Update 2:

Let me give you my background...

I am a Non-Practicing Catholic....

for the people pushing Jesus and the Bible at me, don't bother. This was a book that was created by man...just like the testaments and the Koran, etc....What book was right? maybe none of them. This is why the wars start, because cults are puching their views on other cults and it starts war....

Update 3:

Junos, quoting the bible is not helping your cause.....it is proving my point.

If you are praying to a being that has created man and the universe, you are praying to the same person that the Jews and Muslims are praying to. No matter what book you read, it is the same Being.

Update 4:

And if anyone is praying to Satin, that is something totally different.....that is just a cult of evil...and they must beieve somewhat in the Christian religion to think that there is a Satan (whom was a fallen Angel).

Update 5:

Christine L,

See that is what you are taught to believe. Telling me something that is written by man is not proving anything. It is like reading something from the Dictionary.....thanks for proving my point.

Update 6:

veysel_peru,

I never said the religions were the same. You called Allah God, right. When you pray to Allah (God), you are praying to the same being/Creator as the Christians and the Jews and most other religions that believe in a creator of the Universe. I really don't care what religion you are a sect of, you pray to the same creator as everyone else.

It is people like you and Christine L, that make this world a difficult place to live in.....not 1 religion is right, the religious books that you read were not created by God, they were written by man.

Praying to god and respecting the Earth and everything he has given you should be enough to get you to a heaven.

Update 7:

tahoe,

quoting from a man made book is not helping your case.

Update 8:

safia h,

I never contradicted myself....my point is simple, when we pray, we are praying to the same being that has created the Universe. No matter what religion, no matter what man-made -book says.

There is no book that was written by any God, all books have been made by man stating that God has said these things.

I prefer to be spiritual over being religious. I would rather have a personal relationship with God than to participate in religious dogma. You may enjoy this quote:

"I believe there is an important distinction to be made between religion and spirituality. Religion I take to be concerned with belief in the claims to salvation of one faith tradition or another--an aspect of which is acceptance of some form of meta-physical or philosophical reality, including perhaps an idea of heaven or hell. Connected with this are religious teachings or dogma, ritual, prayers and so on. Spirituality I take to be concerned with those qualities of the human spirit--such as love and compassion, patience, tolerance, forgiveness, contentment, a sense of responsibility, a sense of harmony, which bring happiness to both self and others."

Let me just say that a religious book or scripture cannot be made by man, it can only be changed and revised. So that would include:

    The Bible

    The Torah

    The Qur'an

I do think you're right but you also seem to underestimate religion and the pull it has on people. Yes, I suppose we all pray to the same God because there can only be one Creator of all that exists.

but you contradict your own point, so according to you, you are depending on what ppl have said and wrote. Why would God create us for no purpose, I mean just letting us live day to day having no clue about Him, so common sense says that these books are not man made but are from God, whether they've been changed or altered in any way. Do some research on all the major religions and you will see the difffernce in each of them even though they share the same God.

The differences you will see prove my point.

I have been where you are and was fine myself in my thinking that the "organized" part of religion was just not for me and growing up in a church that became too big and the upper people in it became too high and mighty when only God and His Son are the high and mighty ones.

I would pray on my own never going to church or really reading much of the Bible. Do you pray???

I was then in an auto accident that left me a changed woman for the rest of my life. After a two and a half year experience of not being able to walk at all or drive my car or go to work, I started looking for "a home" in a church. I could not find one sadly.

About one and a half years ago, I finally found a home in church; a non-denominational Christian church. I had finally found a place that seemed to encompass everything and not just one part.

The word is true and the Pastor is wonderful.

We don't sit around and give the gloom and doom stories of how people are going to go to Hell. We celebrate the love God has for us all and how we are all sinners that have a chance to live in the Promise Land.

For me it was finding a home after about 12yrs without even trying before my accident and after I could no longer walk.

It is a personal option that as we all know; We have choice with God and will to do whatever we shall do.

If you know in your heart that you are very spiritual, do not let it bother you or make you feel you have to go to a church where you do not feel comfortable as God can not work through someone you can't look up to in any way.

I do accept that everyone has choice and free will; as God said it shall be.

Maybe one day you will find what I have but if not, I completely understand.

I disagree. The problem with the concept that we are all worshipping the same God is that the different religions hold beliefs that cancel each other out. Christians believe that Jesus is the Messiah and was crucified and raised form the dead. Jews do not believe Jesus was the Messiah and their Messiah is yet to come. Islam teaches that Jesus was nothing more than a teacher and was not crucified nor resurrected. Buddhists worship Buddha and there were 29 of them and they expect another soon. Hindus worship many gods and goddesses. They can't all be right. One has to be the truth. Despite what you may have heard, all roads do NOT lead to God. God has made the path to Him clear when Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man can come to the Father except through me.

IMO religion and faith are two different things that may or may not work well together. Man created religion. It is a set format. it has rules, ceremony etc etc. Faith is something that you create for yourself. It has no rules or formats. I choose to believe in God. I have faith that there is a God/creator/ omnipresent presence etc. I always question his/her/ its purpose and being. My beliefs loosely fit many religions. The faith however is my own. AS for a specific answer to your question, are you right, are you wrong.. well that depends on what you believe. No one can answer it for you. No one can definitively tell you exactly what is the absolute with full proof correct religion. They will try, but they will not have the tactile proof any skeptic really needs. It all boils down to my favorite word... faith

What I will say is that I have questioned and pondered the same thought. Most not all but most religions give the same guidelines for good morality etc. The "God" of each religions doctrine are amazingly similar to many others. This fact is not lost on me. My own answer is Almost every religion is a little bit right, and every religion is a little bit wrong. In someway most of them are tied to each other.

I disagree. There is only one true God, Yahweh the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. There are false religions in this world that have been created by satan. Christ Jesus is the only one that has been born of a virgin birth, lived, died and rose on the 3rd day. He is the only "deity" if you will that is alive today. To Him be the Glory. To incorporate all deity into 1 is blasphemy. No one comes to the Father but thru Him. I pray you do a little research into the life of Christ. Maybe even reading the bible.

    Disagree.

All the religions are not the same.

The only religion by Allah(God) is Islam.

Other religions will not be accepted by Allah in the hereafter.

Believe me, the most and only correct religion is Islam.

Islam is the last heavenly religion sent by Allah(God). Previously Christianity and Jewish were also sent by Allah, but both those religions and their books are damaged. For example take Christians believe that Christ is son of God. This is not true. Allah is the creator of all the things in heavens and the earth. Allah is unique. He does not have a child.

Believe me, no other religion except Islam will be accepted from their followers.

Islam is the best, last and only true religion.

There is no discrepancy in Quran. It is a perfect book, the only originally preserved book from Allah.

The only religion by Allah(God) is Islam. (Inned dine indAllahil Islam)

I am not insulting anybody but this is the truth. Believe me. Truth!

    Best wishes

The penalties of making a choice on a flawed notion are that it will take you longer to discover the correct one. If you believe of existence as a travel in seek of the reality (that is surely what you wish to feel in, in case you wish to feel whatever), then you're already headed in roughly the correct course. The truly searcher after fact is regularly checking his course with what he observes, what he considers correct or flawed approximately what different folks say and with more than a few scriptures and writings from the beyond. His brain is constantly open - and will have to be specially if he believes that the best target is a sentient being that is shining a gentle to consultant him. To cross unquestioning closer to the sunshine is to fly like a moth at a candle! If your brain is sincere and open, you danger being in part correct; you danger seeing the identical mountain as others see from a totally special perspective. Once one has set one's brain on looking for fact, then one can be guided in view that we have already got the seeds of fact inside us. Yes, I have made a great deal of time to seem in any respect forms of religions (no longer all, however many, and a few I have not studied in so much element). I cannot say that what I learn ever was once the turning factor for me. The turning factor was once an immediate and really private revel in and I might desire anything of that sort for every person. Personally, I am optimistic that I am within the correct manner. I do not believe I might end up that to any one else. It's as much as you to come to a decision whether or not you believe what I say is smart. If it is smart to you and others, then it is rather most probably that I am going within the correct course and it is most probably, too, that you're.

People do not agree or "see this" like you said in your details. People do not accept your theory because it goes against their "idea of God." You obviously believe that there is one God overall, yet you do not believe that this one God has explicit characteristics, or else you would associate yourself with one religion. The majority of people believe that whatever God they worship "stands out" and is unique. For instance, Christians believe that the God of the Holy Bible is the true God, and even if people pray to some other God (like Allah) the God of Christians doesn't ignore these people because they're not praying to Him specifically. Christians believe that God loves mankind and He is always at work leading people to the gospel and Himself. If people make up their minds to serve whatever god feels right to them, that is a mystery in itself how and why this happens...

Overall, I think God hears all, knows all...but there are many people who are lost who think they are praying to "the right God."
