Barack Obama is more than a black man.?

I am asking for opinions on why such a big deal is being made of Barack Obama being black, and not of the fact he is a good man, with strong beliefs and a solid political background? This is not in any way a racial comment, just puzzled why it was the main focus?

It is unfortunate that so much has been made of his race since it does take away from more important things, like policy. I'd like to see more discussion on policy and less of the ridiculous postings I'm seeing. It's getting tiresome.

Surely there's more to it for most people, not just the ones who did indeed vote based on race.

  • There were 43 white presidents, a Black man made 44.

40 years ago when racism was swallowing this country JFK said in 40 years we will have a ***** President. It's a big deal because it happened. I'm proud of that because it says we have come along way just as JFK predicted.

Now, when you put that aside. Obama IS more than a Black Man. He's an intelligent man with the passion to fix this country and bring back the true meaning of being A proud american.

He just happens to be Black.

A big deal is being made because it has never happened before. Until this election, right or wrong, it has always been exclusively held by a white male. There are people who were alive 40-60 years ago who never would have believed a man of color would become the leader of the free world. Now it has happened and for a lot of people, specifically minorities they can now truly believe in the American dream because the Presidency is no longer a club exclusively for white males.

Republicans started Rumors that he was a Muslim which in their eyes made him a Terrorist and Anti American.

Yet How quickly they forgot that BUSH was PALS with Osama Bin Laden 5 years Prior to 9/11 and even ate dinner at his home when he resided here in the United States.

The Black aspect of it showed that RACISIM and HATE are still VERY much Alive in this NATION and has Continued to be passed down Generation to Generation

I think it is PATHETIC that someone would be that Ignorant not to get their facts straight and condem him before they knew who he was based on the color of his skin

They were also Brainwashed by the McCain BS he spewd,

They NEVER really listened to what McCain was really saying or doing

Under the Guise of "Country First" he dropped everything to fly to Washington to get his CUT of the BAIL OUT

His Own party said they had NO idea why he was there when he said and did NOTHING

He Planted Joe the Plumber who was related to Charles Keating

    a COHORT of McCain's

He had associates with AIG, FANNIE & FREDDIE

He was supported by the NRA and the KKK

    In McCains Own Words

"I don't agree with what the American People Want"

All NON Republican States are "ANTI AMERICAN"

    "I know Nothing About Economics"

"There is Nothing to worry about the Economy is Fine"

"We Want To Win The Iraq War"

Tells Pennsylivania that Obama has been saying Nasty things about them and then says "I have to Agree with him" and "I couldn't agree more"

The Republicans made a big deal out of a photo of Obama Toasting some guy when it turned out McCain paid that guy $500k

It is OVER and done. Either we accept it and continue to

LIVE OUR LIVES or we LEAVE the COUNTRY which is our right as AMERICANS to do.

Give the man a chance to show us what he can do.

If he isn't what some of us assuemed he would be than IMPEACH him or wait another 4 years and Vote in someone Else

I voted for Obama and I believe he is the ONE to get us out of the mess we are in.

CHANGE WILL NOT happen right away. Obama still has to Clean Up the Mess that BUSH left behind.

He broke a major barrier in the U.S. He represents a lot of hope for many people and not just for blacks. He is a good man with strong beliefs and a solid political background. He is intelligent and charismatic. I am anxious to see what he will do.

Its not that he is black, it is that he is Oprahs new toy, and her meddling in national affairs is different than the "advice" that got Dr. Phils career started, sorry giving Obama the keys to the most destructive devices on earth when he has no business with a BB gun just proves she has no common sense.

Obama is just a man, who was elected President of the US..let's see what happens for the next four years in him keeping his promises and bringing change to America

You are right he is more than a black man. He is a Muslim who has racial Christian beliefs who wants to take our guns away from us so the terrorist can come here. He is a baby killer, homosexual loving commie. He speaks of love and peace but so does the Anti-Christ

You are right, our cultural, racial heritage is only a part of who we are and the things you listed are the important things we need to focus on. I wish we could get past race and judge people by their abilities and accomplishments.

Because it's a great breakthrough in our nation's history, a historical moment. It's just like Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in major league baseball, though of course even more significant. Robinson was also a good ball player.
