Are You As Proud of America as I Am?

I stood at Grant Park amid thousands of people, well-behaved, diverse, rich, poor, black, yellow, white, waiting...waiting for the news! When it came, the announcement that Obama had won the election, people started dancing, singing and leaping with joy! Then, when Obama spoke, a silence fell over the crowd as he repeated his message of hope! At that time, I felt a great pride in my country. We did it! Yes, we can...and did! We have proven that Americans are not all racist bigots or aggressive bullies. We have proven that any young boy or girl can grow up to attain great heights, even the Presidency! Do you share my feelings? Are you proud of our country? Is your heart filled with enthusiasm right now?

I'm delighted, and I'll admit envious, that you got to be there. I had planned to go to a party at our Campaign for Change Headquarters, where I had been volunteering. However, my illness prevented me from going. I called my older son and we talked about how excited we were to watch history being made. I was also online with my younger son, a senior in college. We too shared that wonderful moment. Watching that diverse group of people, joyously celebrating a new unity was an experience of a lifetime, and one I'll never forget. Tears streaming down my face, I watched the people celebrating at Grant Park, and listened to President-Elect Obama speak. Yes, I'm proud of America. I'm proud of you, my sons, and Americans everywhere who renounced the evils of racism as we move forward through the 21st century. God bless President-Elect Obama, Vice President-Elect Biden, and their families. God bless America!

I'm not American but I feel every American today, should be proud to be born in the US. The only superpower, and the world's most influential country has a black president. It's so fabulous! Everyone in the world should be happy; you've proven anyone can be anything. He IS the American Dream. For a long time, I found myself wanting to distance Canada from the US. But now I'm proud to live right beside you. Hopefully, one day Canada will follow in your footsteps and we'll have our own minority Prime Minister. Congratulations to all Americans for such an amazing victory.

There are many things about my Country that I am Proud of, in fact, I have never NOT been Proud of my Country, and it's accomplishments, and it's Contributions to the world..... until now.

I am saddened to feel that way, and I am still Proud of our past, but saddened at the outlook for our Future.

Our Constitution was ignored. It was the Fabric of the Foundation of our Country, and on 4 November 2008, 65,248,522 people crapped on it.

well M, we did it. this certainly made my day. i saw you guys there, an actual sea of people, that was so cool. but, i've read the posts above and i'm saddened by many in this country that are so dam blind. we wrested our country from the grip of extremist neocons and look how many are angry over it. while we, and many around the world celebrate, they spew venom. it's shameful.

oh, i know these are the same posters that were calling for us to nuke iraq when our stated purpose was to liberate them. but these are not all 14 year old boys undergoing the first pangs of testosterone poisoning. many are our neighbors, some even called themselves our friends; now they spit fury. hard to be proud of that.

    Source(s): yes we did.

I am very proud of my country - wish I could have been at Grant Park with you. It was awesome even on TV, as were the celebrations in Harlem and around the world.

Yes, I am very proud of my country and most of its people. Aren't they great. Not so much because Obama is black but because we all pulled together to make him a Democratic president. It just goes to show what can be accompolished when we all work together as one nation!
