What is the best way to get to Phoenix International Raceway?
I'm coming from Tucson and I don't know if I should take I-10 all the way to Avondale or if it would be better to take the back-roads via Riggs Rd. Thanks!

You might try the 167 exit on Interstate 10 and then go on Riggs Rd until it changes to Beltline Rd and then changes to South 51st Street. Turn left on West Broadway Rd. (W. Broadway is about 25 miles from the 167 exit on I-10) and go about 8 miles. That should run into Avondale Rd (may be called South 115th Ave) where you will go south about 2 miles and cross the Salt River.
It may be better to stay on I-10. I do know there is a tunnel somewhere there in Phoenix. (Phoenix Deck Park Tunnel) The last time I came through there there was traffic backed up. I do know there is a bypass for truckers carrying hazardous material that bypasses the tunnel. That may be an option. but I don't know if it's legal for cars or not.
I can tell you that any time you take back roads you are asking for more potential problems. That's why I say it may be best to just stay on I-10 however I am the type person that loves to site see. I like the long way sometimes. The Riggs Rd exit may be more interesting. My mapping software shows it being about an hour drive from the 167 exit on Riggs Rd to the track. If you stay on I-10 my mapping software shows it is about a 45 minute drive from the 167 exit on I-10 to the track. The 167 exit is about 1 mile past the Maricopa / Pinal county line.
I don't live there but have driven there before around West Buckeye Rd. on a business trip. Traffic wasn't bad on W. Buckeye Rd but I do remember a lot of stop-n-go on 1-10 at the tunnel.

You might bypass the reservation and take the 155 exit on Baseline Rd. It will run into the same area as the Riggs Rd will but will avoid the reservation and the tunnel.. Mapping software shows that as being 5 minutes quicker but there may be more stop lights.

Here's some scheduled road construction. http://autos.msn.com/everyday/trafficreport.aspx?c... The thought of taking I-17 may not be a good one.

If you take Riggs Road, you will drive through the Salt River Indian Res. If you don't have a really good map to follow, or concern about car trouble, I would recommend I-10 all the way. Even though it looks a few miles shorter, there are speed limits on the Res.
