1360x768 via VGA, only 1280x720 (720p) via HDMI?

When i connect the tv/monitor via VGA (DVI to VGA adapter) i can set resolution to 1360x768 however when I connect via HDMI (DVI to HDMI adapter) I can only get 720p- is what the tv shows, 1280x720 is the highest resolution available on the display options on PC.
As my vcard has only DVI/S-vid out and my set only has vga/HDMI in, I cannot simply run an HDMI/DVI/or VGA straight from source to set. I read that DVI/HDMI adapter does not reduce quality since both signals are digital.
Why the lower res on the digital signal when it's supposed to be superior?

Three things you can try:
- Under Windows' Display Settings, click on Advanced Settings, go to the Monitor tab, and see if "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" is checked. If it is, uncheck it and see if it frees up the 1366x768 display modes.
- Make sure you are not using refresh rates the TV cannot support.
- Under nVidia's drivers, maybe try "force TV detection" and see if it can detect the display modes it will support.
