What is the 'system idle process' on my computer?
Sometimes my internet explorer will freeze up ...... every time this happens i check my processes and low and behold ...every time it happens my 'system idle' process usage is like 85-98%. Why does this happen? Is it normal? Could it have something to do with why my programs seem to freeze? Thanks!

First of all, you're cute and I'll come over to work on your pc any day ;)
And to answer your question... What you need to do is update your Internet Explorer to IE7 if you're on IE6. IF you already have IE7 installed, what you need to do is reset it to default settings. It's possible you have some rogue malware or BHO's injected into your browser. Doing this will clean up your browser and restore it to manufacturer default settings.
To reset your browser, launch IE, go to Tools > Internet Options > Avanced > Restore Advanced Settings / RESET...
You will not lose any of your favorites. This will merely clean your browser.
Once you do this reboot and see if that helps.

System idle means that the system is doing nothing (or looping) while waiting for work. This is normal and you will find that it has the highest CPU usage most of the time.
Your internet explorer freeze ups are more likely due to waiting for a response from the website that you are at.

Could be your memory just can't handle the load, could invest in more memory.
If you know that you have ample memory, try "cleaning" out all the rubbish that builds up on your hard drive.
Make sure your computer has the latest Windows updates, reason I mention this is, when the system programme "Disk Cleanup" is run and your computer is not up to date this freezes the system. 98%.
Download "CCleaner and use that for cleaning out your system of old files. Also select TOOLS and STARTUP in CCleaner programme and see what programmes start when your computer starts.

as cpu has to run all time, idle process runs when cpu has nothing else to do and it is not related to IE process.
IE freezing up - I noticed the same thing , started few months ago after MS released some hot fixes but I could not figure out which one causes it.

system idle simply indicates how much of your processor is not in use. When IE freezing and the system idle process have no relation, except to say that you should kill the IE process.
