Why the US isn't the greatest country in the world NOWADAYS?
I am an American from Boston. I have studied the constitution deeply. I feel we are not the best country in the world nowadays for a bunch of reasons:
1) Lack of respect of the US constitution nowadays:
This is the biggest reason for our downfall nowadays. People gave us respect as Americans because we believed in our constitution before. Our country was the epicenter for culture about 50 years back. All the cool rock bands came to our country from the UK, we had individualistic rights in this country. We were at the forefront of the feminist movement, gay movements and a number of others. People were not afraid of demonstrating their disapproval, whether it was over the Vietnam War or the rights of black people in America. Our constitution gave us those rights, and we followed them and didn't give a **** about the government's stance towards us. Thats why people from all other countries respected us for being Americans, because we stood up for what was right; whether it was against our government. Martin Luther King is another example that comes to mind.
According to our constitution, our nation was founded on the philosophical premise that the life of each individual is crucial. Individuals do not exist to serve the government (or any other institution) but rather, as Thomas Jefferson put so succinctly, “governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed” in order to protect individual rights (namely, the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness).
We donot heed the words of Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin today, and protest against the wars in the world. That is why we are not respected in the world anymore. Because we dont stand up for what is right nowadays. We live in a police state where our government has taken away our rights (by not abiding by the constitution), and made us hostage.
2) Economically: We are not economically strong anymore. How many American manufactured products do you see in the market? They are all imported from China. Even if you see how we've afforded to have wars in 2 countries, you will see that China has given us humungous amounts of debts/loans for these wars. So we cannot even provide for our wars anymore.
I could talk about a bunch of other reasons, but i guess this is ok. Please give objective answers.

READ it all the way down, it worth it. Even if you are insulted to highest point, read them all. You could be surprised by the conclusion.
-Because Americans base their economy on individual privacy and then complains about economic crisis and poverty.
-Because Americans judge other countries on warfare and economy while they couldn't figure out that terrorist war is a 2nd Vietnam and while their own economy situation is pulling everyone down in the last desperate effort to get back on.
-Because American thinks they have the monopole of Good while making wars to get bigger than they already are.
-Because they still fight a communism they never understood and present their great economy failure as being a short down period.
-Because they reelected president Bush and then were yelling their rage for the war they allowed to continue
-Because Americans are proud of a freedom that compel them to pay and suffer, to cry in their doomed world
-Because Americans judge they are the greatest of all, with their civil rights, their laws, their control, which only a matter of time to fall, an incoherent illusion they carry on to avoid of being afraid by the devastating truth: a pole position can only be lost.
-Because Americans take on benefits of being tall while not doing their duty of protection.
-Because Americans took on their own to annihilate principles even in the risk of their own integrity.
-Because Americans place money in front of life, in front of their civil rights they so hardly defended and justified deaths with.
-Because America represents the chains of the wealth power compelling the world to follow on their path, making the planet even dirtier, making our world even more malicious, making the human race being even more fool.
I am not saying I've done better, I am saying power is meant to help weak ones, to make vertu prevail, to make things better.
Until the November 4th of this present year, I admit I hated USA with much intensity. When you choose Obama as president, I felt that patriotic thing, like the one I feel like when I read about your revolution against Great Britain. I am not even american and felt that on this precise instant.
He is exactly at the opposite of all the statements up there or at least most of them.
This only single move made change my mind from top to bottom. I'm supporting you in the rebuilt of your history.
USA needed change, we needed you to change for us to do so.
I thought I would never say that, but:
THANK YOU AMERICA!

Don't believe the hype. While no place is perfect, this is the only country in the world where you are truly free. You could not enjoy the freedoms you enjoy in this country anywhere else in the world, save for an island on which you lived by yourself. The economic downturn will allow several entrepreneurs to amass fortunes. Every day, we creep closer to equality among the races and sexes in this country. We are the wealthiest, despite our borrowing. We are the smartest in many industries. The fact that we are not at our best does not diminish the presence of our strength. In addition, the world looks to the U.S. for aid and ingenuity. The world looks to us for conflict problem solving. The world looks to us for protection. We are still the most powerful nation in the world and will continue to be.

Because this country is controlled by corporations and banks, it bullies other countries, and is spending too much overseas like a drunken.
How to make it better? Withdraw all troops from overseas, including Iraq/Afghanistan, global bases, quit entangling itself in NATO, UN, halt overseas spending/aid, and start defending/upholding the Constitution, nothing more.

It's not because yes we try to find loopholes in the constitution, many that don't make sense.
Also the quality of life has decreased. Before only one parent had to work to provide for an entire family. However, in most cases both parents have to work to get by. They spend less time with their kids and even though they work hard the buying power is not what it used to be.

You're taking about the US i assume? only you said maths wrong if you aren't (can't stand the pronunciation 'math', makes me cringe). Popular interest in science and maths is woeful in all parts of the world. I don't understand why, personally I think they're both really interesting, but then again I do have A level Science education, more than most people have.

We are still the best place on earth and when people stop trying to get here any way they can I will not accept you premise. McCain was correct our basic structure is very sound. Our banking system will manage and get threw this mess far better than Europe who do not have a good banking system that is able to support all of the European banks. Peace

Tony Blair was once asked if he thought America was that great a place. He said he judges a country by how many people are trying to get in and how many are trying to get out.

All of those movements, etc. have now led to the crybaby syndrome of everyone directing attention to themselves and demanding their rights (right handed, left handed, gay, straight, racial, gender, etc.) so that we haven't stood up for anything as much as we have cry-babied our way OUT of the basic constitutional guidelines to the point of oblivion. We used to be strong and now are whiny little woosies.

This country has gone down hill since we have become more tolerant of minorities. Now we have a black president and we will finish our demise.
