How do you find a virus on your computer?
I've read some of the responses to similar questions, but what I'm wondering is how would the geek squad go about looking for a virus? I'm running windows XP. I know of some of the programs out there that do it for you, but I'm looking for the process that a computer geek would use to get rid of a virus. Thanks.

Restart your PC in safe mode with networking

Download, install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes
Run a full scan with Micro Trend House Call
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
After the scans, restart the PC and download SuperAntiSpyware and run a full scan

Then update your anti-virus, remember to only have one anti-virus installed on your PC

They use "Geek Squad Black Tie Protection", which is just a fancy name for a internet protection suite.
If you want to get the same service they offer free on your computer then get just get the lastest and greatest in virus protection. This suite below is an all in one package and really blows the door off what The Geek Squad offers.

They use the same method you would use. They run an anti virus program. If it finds a virus it removes it.
The difference is you pay them to do the work.
