Do they think it's child abuse?

My 8 year old son was playing with my 4 year old last night and decided to drag him across the carpet. I told him not to because he might get a rug burn. Well he did get rug burn across the top of his back. My 4 year old goes to pre-k at the YMCA. I did tell the staff about the incident but is afraid that they might not believe me and report me to social services. What do you think??

Update:

The only reason why I'm concern is cuz I was reported before when my oldest son was younger. He accidentally hurt his back and the daycare reported me. Now, my younger one's BACK is red so I'm paranoid.

Give it a rest. Don't worry; the staff will report - they have to. They are doing their job, and by law they must report. They cannot assume anything.

The doctor will examine the burn and decide - so you cannot stop the staff from doing that.

There are always two sides to a story.

I think you shouldn't worry. The staff know that kids play around and they get bumps and bruises. If they suspected that you were abusing your children they would have reported it. BUT you should stop letting the 8 year old rough house with the four year old like that.

If it's the occasional bruise or bump, and you've informed them thay have no reason to suspect youof any wrong doing. He's a boy, with a brother, and the Y will see all sorts of accidents and injurys everyday

I don't think they think it is child abuse. You told them what happened and they can look and see that it is a rug burn and your 4 year old can tell them that his brother did it.

kids get hurt all the time. usually they know when its real or abuse. i would keep medicine on it or band aid and they will know you are taking care of it. 2 of my sons are always hurt. i know what you mean, i had foster kids and one got burned on the chin and they called cps at the hospital. i know they have to protect the children and not turn away, but i am sure you should be ok. good luck

Most places realize that kids are kids and that siblings especially will do things like that to each other. As long as it isn't a regular occurrence and the "injury" corresponds with your explanation, you should be fine.

  • i think watch them a bit more closely and don't worry about it. You told the staff... If its the truth its probably believable and there won't be a problem.

No. I doubt they will think that it is child abuse, but you need to intervein between your child's sibling rivlary.

You don't want him losing an eye next.

They might think that is abuse.

    They might.
