Question about post offer background checks?

How often do employers do post offer background checks?

I interviewed for a job on october 8th. They called to offer me the job on oct. 24th, but i asked to have the weekend to decide. Eventually accepted the job over the phone on the 27th of october. The HR was very happy that i accepted the offer and congratulated me on the job. She was very excited for me.

The letter she sent me has something of the sort "this offer is contingent on receiving satisfactory information from any background check we may conduct, and our ability to verify your legal right to work in the US".

The HR lady said over the phone it just needed my signature to accept the terms of the offer (the pay). My start date that I MADE is on jan 5th 2009.

Now im wondering, would they have conducted these background check (s) already? Or would they wait till i get closer to my start date? Does anyone know or has anyone been in similar situations?

Update:

Another thing, do you think they already looked over my previous employment records and called my references before offering me the job?

Update 2:

I called last wednesday (oct. 5th) to ask her if it was safe to put down the company on a sheet so they can announce my full time job after college at my college graduation ceremony and she said "yes".

I'm just wondering when exactly they do this stuff and when they complete it.

in many cases employers state that they run background checks just to make you sweat; it's a great way to deter people who have something to hide from applying to begin with. background checks are pricey and they have to be done through a subsidiary.

typically, however, background checks take only a day or two to complete, and that's from the date they receive your signature stating that it's OK. however, the background checks only matters of record, i.e. any and everything that goes through court and hasn't been expunged. that makes me wonder if they even NEED permission...

i got a background check from the FBI for the army and it took a day to get back, and i also got one from a private contractor. both took a couple of days, and both only check things such as credit and criminal background. you most likely either didnt get one at all or youre already cleared.

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://tinyurl.im/aH3n0

Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

Pre-employment background checks are done once you sign off that the company has your permission to access your otherwise legally protected information.

When exactly a company does these is generally up the the employer, but typically they are done as soon as possible as some information takes time to receive. Consider: you accept a position in January '09 and a company decides to wait until 2 weeks out to run your check. And all of a sudden your credit comes back questionable, and you are trying to work at a bank. Now the company has a problem in that the person they were trying to hire is no longer eligible. And they have to fill the position with...who?

Background checks "may be done" after acceptance of the job (upon signing the papers) and a I-9 form is signed. Any other checks after the "initial" one would have to have cause (like a promotion that puts you in a position requiring a different clearance. Anything found in your background other than minor stuff is not grounds for removal/denial if you can prove others doing the same job had minor infractions and were allowed to be hired or maintain their positions. Example: U.S Senators whom have minor infractions of the law that do not directly affect the job position and their ability to carry out their duties. Generally, when checking into the HR office after the start date is when you get your finger prints taken and the security checks are done. Things like references and college transcripts verification are pre-screening checks and are not classified as a "background check".

The absolutely free reverse phone lookup sites generally provide the most basic of information such as name and it works only for landlines. To get further information, money will have to be paid. The free searches do not provide much more than what can be found through the phone book or personal knowledge and they only want your email to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse phone lookup sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse phone lookup site like http://unlimitedchecks.net/everify-327.html that has been around since 1999.

If I recall correctly they have two options:

    1. Get only one report.

    2. Get unlimited reports. I went with this option because I wanted to verify more numbers. This is how I caught my girlfriend cheating, I got the name, other phone number, address history, relatives, and criminal-court records.

I just tried https://webmd.im/verispy last year to see if I could Locate my birth-father. My bio father left me when I was 7, and has refused to be a part of my life since. I grew up with my bio Mother and Step-father. I have only ever talked to my biological father a couple times until now. All I knew of him personally when I conducted the search was his first name, last name, and the street address of a previous address he used to have.

When the search results came back based on the minimal info I had, It pulled up a recent address along with even a phone number. When I called the phone no., I heard the voice of what sounded like it may be my step-brother. I asked if Joseph(my biological dad) was there, and he said no but to try back after 5.

I haven't done anything with the info, But I found what I was wanting to have.
