Hello Daniel,
This is a GREAT question!
One of the first things that helps a Technician answer this question correctly, is to know:
What MAKE and MODEL of PC is it?
In General, you may find the following information helpful but it is going to be generic because I do not know the answer to the above question.
** MAKE BACKUPS OF YOUR IMPORTANT DATA **
I recommend using Acronis True Image to back up your data before you start this procedure. If you have important documents, don't forget to copy them to an external drive or CD / DVD media. You will be hard pressed to get it back if you forget!!
With OEM's like DELL or HP, you usually either are provided with discs, have to create your own discs or have a restore partition.
You really need to go to your manufacturer's website and get the specific instructions for your model but here are some common ways to do it.
HP
F10 at boot screen.

DELL
CTRL + F11 at boot screen.
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx...
*Disconnect all connected devices (such as the Personal Media Drive, USB drives, printer, and fax), remove media from drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware. Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord.
Generic PC with Windows OS:
Insert original installation disc into your drive and boot to that drive. Make sure you have your Motherboard drivers (Chipset, Video, Audio, Ethernet, Modem, etc.) handy as you will need this after the OS is installed. You will also need to perform all upgrades to your OS like SP2 or SP3 on Windows XP and SP1 on Vista if your recovery media does not contain those updates.

Do you have a restore disk (there included when you buy a new PC, most of the time anyways)? If so, pop that baby in during startup, boot from it, follow the prombts and wall-a. If not, then you need your operating system disk, format the drive reboot the operating system, only problem with that is you wont have everything else that the manufacture pre-loaded on your computer.

If you just want to delete a file or program that recently caused your system to crash, you can use a restore point. To do this you have to go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore, Restore my computer to an earlier time, and select the month and date. If this doesn't work then you will have to use the restore disc's that came with the computer.

Hi daniel
restoring or recovering your p.c can be done using one of two main methods
the first and most common is using a recovery disk which is supplied with the p.c when you first buy it,and looks like a standard dvd rom however on there you will see the manufactuers name and also windows xp/vista
the disk is in essence a windows disk however unlike a normal windows xp or vista disk the recovery disk is unique to your p.c and trying to install the recovery disk on another p.c isnt recommended
to use the recovery disk simply insert in your dvd drive and restart the p.c.plus make sure your bios is set to boot from dvd/cd(you will find the boot order option in "advanced bios features") and when the p.c starts you will see a message to "press any key to boot from cd/dvd"
press any key and the recovery disk will begin, this is a fully automatted procedure and apart from a few sections you can leave it "unattended" to install
the recovery disk will install everything thats needed for your p.c including drivers and any oem software
next type of recovery is the "partition recovery" which recovers your p.c using a ghost image of windows from a hidden partition on your hard drive
the drive is invisible to you from within windows however it can be seen in administrive tools, but do not delete it
just like the disk this will recover your pc back to its factory state, and this includes drivers and oem software
both these methods are really easy and you shouldnt have any problems however let me know if you do
there is another method which is relatively new,its mainly on hewlett packard pc,s and laptops and is a "recovery disk creator" program thats on your desktop
and this program using burning software will create a fully working recovery disk however from what i have heard it can only be used once but this is only rumour !
note: the recovery disk method reinstalls windows but formats your drive with loss of data so back up anything important before you begin, and the recovery partition allows you to reovery your p.c with or without loss of data, however if the recovery is due to virus or spyware infestation then the full recovery with loss of data is recommended
i hope this helps, however any problem let me know
good luck daniel !

GO TO.
Start>programs-accessories-System Tools>System Restore > Restore my computer to any earlier time, then press NEXT and find the best possible date that your PC was good.
If restoring was not effected in your machine earlier, I think there is no any way to restore it.
Good Luck!!!

You'll have to do a format of the hard disks and completely reinstall the operating system. Make sure you back up all important files that you wouldn't want to lose, because this wipes out your whole hard drive.

hi, first factor you need to appreciate is which working device do you have on your pc. If that's a domicile windows ninety 8, domicile windows millennium, domicile windows 2000 or a domicile windows xp. you won't be able to do a device fix domicile windows ninety 8,2000 and millennium. yet once you OS in a domicile windows xp you're able to do device fix. right that's the regulations. a million. click on commence on your status Bar on your pc. 2. visit courses, upload-ons, device procedures and than you click on device fix. you could now fix you device to any given date of your determination. the different option is you is your pc fix disc that got here with the pc while purchase.

reformatting your computer. backup all the files on your computer to either another computer on the network or a external hard drive. to do it with another computer on the network, open up my computer. in the url bar where it says my computer type in the other computers ip address. you will also need a username and password on that computer. then just move all the files like you would to an external. if that dont work you can pull from the other end! so go to another computer on your network and type in your ip address and just pull the files to your local pc.
when that is done, go to your computer manufacturers website and download all necessary drivers. here is a list of ones you will need, and put them in the exact folders along with the number otherwise how would you know what r58251 means?
1-chipset
2-graphics
3-network
4-audio
5-other ones you need
backup these to a flash drive so you can easily access them later.
now your ready to reformat!
get your windows cd. put it in rom drive. when it asks to load cd hit any key that you want. it will ask if you want to repair windows. say no there is no hope for it lol! the next thing you want to select is reinstall (not 100% sure its called that) but it will say something to that effect. when you get to the partitions page select your c drive and hit D + ENTER + L + C (sad that i memorised that part...) this will delete all the info on your c drive. now create a new partition and select normal NTFS format. use the default ammount of space. if you know what your doing feel free to play around with this number. helpful hint! make sure that you have atleast 10gb for it. anything less is dangerous. from this point on its very simple what you should do. it will ask you several questions starting with regional and language options to creating an administrator password and also date and time. you should keep all the default settings especially if you dont have a clue as to what you are doing. the only thing you should change is date and time. set your time zone and make sure the time is correct.
when windows is fully installed again, the first thing you want to do is install drivers. starting with the chipset all the way through the audio driver. make sure that you reboot after each. they are vital system components and not rebooting can cause serious errors. once they are done check your device manager to make sure everything is 100%. start> right click on my computer> manage> device manager. make sure that there are no indications there like an x or a !. if there are go to your computer manufacturers website and get necessary drivers.
next thing that you want to do is install windows updates. start> all progams> windows update. when it comes up select microsoft update and let it install. install all the programs it tells you to install. *** i dont recommend installing the hardware updates. ***
next step would be to install your antivirus software after you run windows update until there are no more updates. need antivirus? get avg free! links at the bottom.
your computer is now ready for use!

you can do a system restore which takes it back to a previous date, just go into control settings, or do a windows search for system restore, and it will come up...its quite easy ive done it to mine a few times............or you could just delete everything you've put on there manually........just go into control panel on your menu. im not a computer expert, so couldnt help more than that sorry.

depends on the make, some of them come with reset discs. mine is an ACER and i can do it 2 ways try this restart the pc and let it load up then when the pic comes up of the name of the computer press either F10 of F11 repeatedly and that will bring a black screen up with reset options. Ive done it with mine and it works
