Texas Vs. Texas Tech..... National championship?

How likely is it that they both win out the rest of the season and Alabama loses one game which would put them 1-2 in the polls and then have two big twelve south teams in the national championship?

Update:

That may be, but remember, Texas is a one loss team who lost only to number 2 tech and are now 3rd. Texas won't drop at all unless they lose, the big 12 south is too good so coming from that with 1 loss is not bad. USC has an easy schedule and pretty much has to go undefeated to make it to the national title, just because of their conference. Texas Tech could easily end up playing against Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship game as the Big 12 North is still up for grabs. Oklahoma does present an incredible challenge but I thing Tech has too explosive of an offense for even Oklahoma to keep up with.

Update 2:

This is just a hypothetical situation, I didn't know if there were rules like you have to be top of your conference or what. I guess it's college football though, every team has the ability to be the best in the nation, or the worst in the nation for that matter on any given gameday.

Anything can happen.

Update 3:

Hey jamell, if you're gonna come in here and call me dumb get the facts straight. No matter what happens Texas and Texas Tech will NEVER play each other in the big twelve championship game. Why? Because they're both in the Big 12 South conference, and the championship game takes the best from the South and best from the North. It really doesn't matter the conference. Flat out, if you're the two best teams in the nation, then what grounds would they have to stand on to tell you that you don't have the right to play for the National Championship?

Update 4:

Just so we can throw this talk about rules preventing teams from the same conference playing in the national championship. Check out this site.

There is no rule about teams from the same conference playing in the Championship game, but I don't think your scenario is likely to happen.

If Tech loses, then your scenario is impossible.

Let's assume Tech and Texas both go undefeated.

If Florida beats an undefeated Alabama, Florida would surely jump over Texas.

If Florida and Alabama both lose one more game, then the media darling USC will probably jump Texas.

Of course, there is always the outside chance that everyone except Tech and Texas loses one more game, but that's not likely to happen.

But who knows? No one expected a 2-loss LSU team to jump from #7 to #2 last year either.

The pollsters would have a bias against putting two teams from the same conference in the Championship game, especially if they have already played. But stranger things have happened. I think Florida and Alabama would have to both lose before the SEC Championship game, and then Florida would then have to beat Alabama. Both would then have 2 losses. Texas would then be competing with USC and Penn State for the second spot, and obviously the voters have a huge USC bias that would probably overcome the computers. But if USC also loses a game, Texas would clearly go ahead of Penn State if those were the only 1 loss teams left in the running.

I don't think they will let that happen. However, it's very possible. I see Alabama losing in the SEC title game, Texas Tech could win their title game, leaving Tech #1 in the nation, and Texas could move up to the #2 spot.

However, if this were to happen, I think the officials would fudge the numbers a bit and move the SEC champ or a weak USC team up to 2nd, so 2 conferences are represented in the title game. Fair? no. The Big 12 is by far the best conference in America this year.

How possible? The chances are slim and none and slim left town a few weeks ago.

Texas will be sitting on their thumbs the first Saturday in December because their defense failed to play like a champion against TTU (dude drops easy interception and two dudes refuse to tackle while Crabtree waltzes into the endzone). Meanwhile the entire college football world will watche three games: USC v UCLA, Florida v Alabama, and the Big 12 Championship Game. If Alabama loses a game it is most likely going to be against Florida in the SEC Championship. That Florida victory will break the Texas/Florida tie in the computer polls and catapult Florida over Texas. The voters will also take an "out of sight, out of mind" approach to their ranking and raise conference champion Florida over conference also-ran Texas. Hence, in your scenario, it would be:

    1. TTU

    2. Florida

    3. doesn't matter

    4. doesn't matter

If TTU somehow manages to lose the Big 12 Championship then the scenario will likely be:

    1. Texas/Florida

    2. Florida/Texas

    3. doesn't matter

    4. doesn't matter

If either TTU or Alabama lose a game before the Conference Championship it is very likely that they will drop to number 3 or lower as late season losses are catastrophic.

There is just about a 0% probability that the BCS Championship Game will be Texas v TTU.

    Very, very unlikely.

If Alabama loses one game during the regular season, it means that they will have beaten Florida in the SEC Championship. They would probably be put in the the National Championship Game then.

If Alabama loses to Florida in the SEC Championship, then the one-loss Gators would probably be put in the National Championship.

USC could also jump Texas if they win out.

Also, it is not a sure thing that Tech would make the championship either. Oklahoma is a very good team, and might defeat Tech during the regular season.

The BCS will not send a team that didn't win there conference to the championship game, and since Texas and TT are both from the big 12 south, it would not happen.

dude your dumb they both can't win out because they got to get to the big 12 championship and there isn't a single bowl game where two teams from the same conference can play each other i thought people were smarter than this

Anything can happen in college football and while Texas Tech and Texas could happen, Its seems highly impossible. If Alabama wins out with Miss St.and Auburn which they should, that leaves only forida, which will be one excitng game. The winner could play Texas tech.

Isn't it a rule that teams from the Same conference cannot play in the BCS national championship against each other

I'd love to see the Horns in National Championship game again! But I don't think it'll be these two teams. One of them maybe, but not both.
