Did everyone get tested for gestational diabetes?
I'm in the UK and am 28 weeks pregnant. I had my 28 week bloods taken but they made no mention of a test for diabetes. Do they only do this if they think you're at risk? I know i should have asked at the time but I'm terrified of injections and was just pleased to get out of there without fainting!
I'm not due another appointment (and that will be with my GP) until 31 weeks. What do you guys reckon? Should I be calling up the hospital to ask?
Have just spoken to the midwife at my hospital and she said they only test if the mother has a BMI of over 30, has had a previous baby weighing over 10lbs (yikes!) or if either of the mother's parents have diabetes.
She did say however that other hospitals do a sugar test on all women and then go on and test the ones that have abnormal results.
There you go, guess it varies! Thanks for all your answers though. Takes a while to get throught to the hospital sometimes so always useful to check on here as well.

I wondered this as well (i'm UK too). I only had bloods taken at my 28 week appointment for iron levels and something else I think. I think they only test you if you're at risk, or if your bloods come back with something to be worried about. Certainly ask if you've got any concerns, that's what they are there for :)

In the US, the majority of women get tested, at risk or not. I don't personally know of a woman who didn't get tested. I am just going to say majority because I am sure someone will come behind me and say that they didn't :)
From my experience with talking to other mothers, I don't think the test is standard in the UK.
If you think that you may be at risk for any reason, discuss it with your GP. If your next appointment is not until 31 weeks, I would just give them a call to express your concerns. If you don't feel you are at risk, just be thankful that you don't have to drink that awful stuff :)
GOOD LUCK!!

even although the main healthiest woman can strengthen gestational diabetes. no remember if this is left untreated this is totally severe for you and toddler. you will the two be uncovered to severe concentration of sugar. this would additionally reason severe quantities of amniotic fluid and untimely hard artwork as a results of fact the uterus grow to be overdistended. a woman with gestational diabetes would have an prolonged hard artwork as a results of fact the toddler is important. Alot of situations a c/s is mandatory. in case you have severe blood sugar than you may journey extra infections in the time of pg particularly kidney and bladder. I comprehend no longer desiring the blood attempt yet you're already wellness ethical sense so it can be a stable determination on your area to establish in case you have it and make ameliorations if mandatory.

I would call up your doctor and perhaps talk to a nurse, mine was pretty busy... I'm sure s/he would know. I can't remember when exactly I got tested for gestational diabetes, but it wasn't that bad. I have a HUGE fear of getting blood drawn and blood work done, that was the only thing that worried me. Just have some support on hand and its really easy to get through. The drink they generally make you drink before hand (I got the lemon lime one, I've heard of people getting orange too) is absolutely nasty, but nothing that can't be handled.

getting checked for gestational diabetes does involve an injection. you are suppose to drink an awful drink wait an hr then get a blood test to see how your body deals with that much sugar. ask your doctor because everyone pregnant needs to get tested for it.

Everyone I know has been tested, regardless of being "At risk" or not. You should ask your doctor about it. It doesn't involve any injections.
