Buddhists, what do you think about this?

Not that I blindly believe, but I am curious as to what you think.

    I don't think so.

In cases such as the Dali Lama the reincarnation is determined by certain tests conducted by very learned people who have a particular insight into who is reborn where.

"the Buddha" the newspapers are referring to transcended the cycle of rebirth and so would not take another birth, certainly not as a human.

My instinct tells me that this is similar to that hoax about the jungle people in the amazon some months ago.

On the positive side it may get some people interested in the teachings.

Not the Buddha. Gotama worked to free himself from the cycle of rebirth. If this kid is the reincarnation fo Gotama, then Gotama failed 2500 years ago. It would raise the question: what else was the Buddha wrong about?

I have found nothing in the Dhamma so far that wasn't true or didn't stand up to scrutiny. So my conclusion is that this kid is not the Buddha reborn.

It has nothing to do with Buddhism. The very point of Buddhism is to free yourself from the pointless cycle of death and rebirth. Yet this kid's meant to a reborn Siddharta Gautama? It's actually the complete opposite of what Buddhism is about.

A housewife is already calling this boy a god... shows how reliable eye-witness accounts are of 'miraculous' things really are.

I find it to be a bit questionable. The kid may or may not have reached...

a certain point, but The Buddha? I don't think so.
