This isn't limited to the PS 3, it happens on the Xbox 360 and PC versions, too. It's down to Treyarch's implemention of the BINK Video player, which they have, frankly, buggered up. The game will freeze when it is called to play a cut-scene video (when loading up and between levels), leaving a black screen on PC and 'loading' on the consoles.

It is rather poor really, considering the BINK Video format has been successfully in use for a few years now, notably on the PC; I put it down to developers being under so much pressure by the publishers to simultaneously release for PC, Xbox 360 and PS 3 to maximise revenue that fans of all platforms are suffering as a result.

I know this doesn't (immediately) help you, but PC users can get around this problem by Alt-Tabbing out and in again and hitting 'escape', which skips the video. Given the fundamental differences between the OS' and depending on how flexible they are (i.e. for workarounds), some platforms may have to wait for a patch.

It's unfortunate, but seemingly inevitable now that the three main platforms can patch games after their release and fix the publisher's laziness/impatience. It is only a matter of time before they stop caring if we all continue to purchase the games based on what we expect, whether they are playable or not.

Time was they had to be viglilant about quality because the console versions were forever written on a disc (and, thus, had to be as good as it could be the first time around) and the PC users just wouldn't put up with a shoddy release, patchable or not, and they knew it.

In short, we all need to unite and say 'No, we will not put up with this. You need us and we demand respect as gamers and consumers for a fit-for-purpose product.'

This kind of workmanship would not be acceptable in a High Street store, why should this industry be any different ? They make millions out of us and do not seem to be answerable to anyone and we have no recourse; if we buy it and it turns out to be unusable then we can wait for a fix or just put up with it.

In short, your PS 3 is, most likely, fine. It is a fault in the software.

I apologise for the short essay between your question and the answer, but I hope you'll (all) agree that it is a problem that needs to be addressed and that we've all had enough.

Are you connected to the internet with your PS3? There is an update the starts automatically before the game even loads. This may be to fix the issue you are suffereing from.

I loaded the game today, it ran fine for about 30 mins then I couldn't get into any online games. The problem was so bad that it even made my dash run badly. took the disc out and all was fine. My friend is having the exactly same problem.

My advice is do the update and wait until tomorrow before thinking about returning the game.

I brought the game earlier today, great fun for about 3 hours

Until online in the menu, it froze. My ps3 restarted and i decided to go back on it. Weirdly it took about 2 mins to download the game settings. I now can't get into any online games. Unless someone invites me. It also freezes alot too. WTH, is this is a server issue or a disc error???

If it is not loading clean the disk and feel the back of the ps3 and if it is warm give it a break. If it isn't warm then don't worry it is your disk reader. To clean your CD use a t-shirt not a napkin it makes it worst. Trust me this will work. It hasn't happened to me but i have had this problem before i make ps3's

Try backing up your data then formatting the hard drive.

If that does nothing, then take the game back and try a different copy.

    That's cuz the Ps3 sucks

seriously though, it sounds like your system is having a hard time reading the data on the disk, its either the lazer on the PS3 or you might have a scratched/faulty disk.

Normally when the game crashes its a SOFTWARE issue so Id say that's the problem, get another disk and try that, returning an opened game is easy as long as your getting the same one back

ha ha i see i got a thumbs down from a PS3 fan, lol
