When you return your XBOX 360 for red ring of death repair, what do they actually do to fix it?

There have been various suggestions as to what manufacturing defect in the 360 causes the Red Ring of Death to pop up in as many as 33% of units. Does anyone know what they (Microsoft) actually do to repair the problem when you send it in (under warranty)? Do they replace the CPU or graphics chip? Do they use a new model of the chip? Do they simply resolder the existing chips? Do they change to the newer larger heatsink? All of the above?

They send you a refurbished one, not the one you had.

They either send you a refurbished one or take off the thinga-ma-bobber that I don't know the name of (but I know you can do it yourself lol that's how easy). I'll see if my BF feels like answering this Q, c0z he knows the action name & would most likely give you the best answer ;-)

Source(s): BF just did the SAME thing with his XBox 360 :-p LOL!
