What do atheists want to do?
What exactly is it in life that atheists feel they couldn't do if they were Christians?
I've always believed in God and thanks to living in the USA I have that right just as atheists have the right not to believe. I've just never really understood why some people denounce God. I thought maybe because there was something they didn't feel comfortable doing if they were Christians. But, we have to follow man's law which pretty much coincides with the teaching of the Bible. Like, not kill, covet your neighbors possessions, steal, worship other Gods, take the name of the Lord in vain, keep the Sabbath holy, commit adultery or lie. You should, however, honor your mother and father. All of these are pretty much man's law today that we ALL have to live by in order to coexist.
Thanks for all the answers everyone. I do have something to say to Punch though.
Christians do what they please most certainly. No big secret there. And you're right. I worded the last edit wrong concerning laws. They aren't laws. It's just a show of respect to people of all religions and denomination as well as those who don't believe. So if someone doesn't believe does that make it less wrong if they do any of these things? I'm not a fanatic but I find it interesting that when imprisoned a large percentage turn to the Bible for comfort only to have a large number return to their old ways when out. Maybe I just wonder "Why?" to a question that has no solid answer for me. And, I wonder why when asked this question so many are offended and go on the defense. My interest is simple curiosity. Thanks again all.

Atheist... or at least some anyway... want to be able to do, whatever they want to do, and not be answerable to the Living God, in this world... or the next!
They want to live their lives for themselves, and to please themselves: not God!
And there are 101 things they feel they could not do, if they were to become a Christian!
The question is... what are they going to do, when God calls out 'Next'... and they realise it's too late to do anything?
If they are right and there is no God... we have nothing to worry about when we die!!
But if we are right and they are wrong... they have eternity to worry about it!!

Your question implies that we could just decide to believe in Christianity. The reason I'm not a Christian isn't that I wouldn't be able to do cool stuff if I were (although a compelling argument can be made!). The reason I'm not a Christian is that it's a ridiculous Bronze Age death cult that worships an evil god, and whose mythology is so full of holes it would be laughable if so many people didn't take it so seriously.

Build a free and fair society unhindered by undemocratic political control systems based on myth and fantasy that do nothing but make the poor serve the incredibly rich, stir up hatred and create wars.

You will never live that one down eh ?

There is nothing that I can do now that I couldn't do as a Christian. I have no belief in god, None. My belief in god is like my belief in Unicorns and fairies.. Non existent. That makes me an atheist. No other reason. There certainly wasn't anything I couldn't do as a Christian that I could do now. I'll let in on a secret. Christians can do anything they want as well, and quite a few do.
There are no laws against covet possissions, worshiping other gods, taking the lords name in vain. Those are "your" laws. Not ours. Common sense to follow them, but there really not punishable by society laws.

1. Have fun whenever, wherever, however I want.
2. Think freely without cross-checking my opinions and thoughts against a book of parables and fables to see if it was "right."
3. Have any chance of not being a hypocrite (soon as that whole judge not lest ye be judged thing comes into play you're pretty much done; guess they forgot to Sharpie that part outta the last draft, d'oh)

Watch football every Sunday. It is not about what we can and can't do it is about what we believe. I do most of the same things as my christian family, except pray or go to church.

Its not like what i can or cannot do in life is based on the fact I'm a atheist.
What i can or cannot do is based on my ability or not to pursue that activity.

It's not important who believes what. It's that everyone should be able to view the world with their own eyes.

They just want to pleasure themselves constantly and not have to follow any rules. They're too proud to be Christians.
